The invisibility suit
From my vantage point, as a 4-time sexual abuse survivor (aged 9 to 16) and social justice advocate (all my adult life), there are at least two and maybe more types of sexual offenders. There is the violent, impulsive, opportunistic predator whose prey often consists of people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. The second type, my main focus, is calculating, cunning, manipulative, and exceptionally well disguised. In essence they have contrived an invisibility suit. The latter are the ones who are embedded in families or having children of their own, carefully leverage the facets of collective (social) psychology to create blind spots. What is a blind spot? It is a hole in the awareness of human beings, at which juncture they are sincerely unaware of something occurring in the environment which might be quite evident from a different position (not a scientific definition). Sexual predators, also referred to in this article, as paedophiles or predators create and manipulate blind spots so effectively, that it is possible for 100% of family members to be genuinely unaware of their crimes. This may persist unless and until the evidence becomes overwhelming. Through the collective subconscious of the family, and manipulated by the predator, an unspoken agreement is contracted “we see nothing”. A skilled predator knows that his (or her) safety lies in the ability to remain undetectable. What cannot be perceived, cannot be caught or stopped. The four-part invisibility plan is a carefully crafted and brilliantly executed master-manipulation to ensure that no one ever stops to ask the unravelling questions.
