The Men’s Golf Committee welcomes you to the 2025 golf season! We look forward to another memorable golf season at Wilmington Country Club. This section of the book will provide all relevant information regarding rules and events for Men’s Golf in 2025. Following are some highlights for the season ahead: We will conduct our 5th Don Pedro Cup in 2025, our season-long points competition. Players will be awarded points based on their finish in sanctioned men’s golf events, including points for participation. At the end of the season, the player with the highest points total will receive recognition as the Men’s Don Pedro Cup Champion. We will be awarding prizes to the top ten finishers. We have four weekend Member-Member events scheduled in 2025. The Wilmington Cup will be played for the third time May 31st and June 1st and will utilize blind draw teams. The Holiday tournament will be played July 5th and 6th, and features varying formats for each nine holes, placed in a new order this season. The Labor Day event will take place on Saturday, August 30th, and will be a flighted better-ball match play event. The closing Annual Member-Member will be a better ball of partners event on September 27th – 28th. The Holiday Tournament will be played on the North Course on Saturday, July 5th, and the South Course on Sunday, July 6th. The North Course formats are now a front-nine select drive alternate shot (Greensomes) and a back-nine Better Ball of Partners. On the South Course, formats will include a front-nine Scramble and a back-nine Aggregate. We have three one-day Member-Guest events on the calendar this year: May, July, and September. These events are ‘Bring 1 or 3 guests.’ We expect these events to be well subscribed, so begin lining up your guests. Sign-ups for One Day Member-Guests will begin about one month before the event.
We will conduct our 88th Invitational this year, and it will again be our premier event. The event dates are June 12th – 14th. We will again conduct a lottery in March.
There will not be qualifying for the President’s Cup and Better Ball of Partners events in 2025 These events will go straight to randomly seeded match play brackets.
The Golf Shop will post scores for Major Tournaments and stroke play Annual Championships only. It is the responsibility of the player to post scores in Annual Championship Match Play competitions.
Our peer review system will continue to be in place. A member may anonymously ask the Handicap Committee to review another member’s handicap to ensure scores are being posted, tournament index is similar to non-tournament index, score manipulation does not exist, etc. Peer review can be accessed on the golf page of the Wilmington Country Club website. The Handicap Committee will review member handicaps prior to major men’s golf events, utilizing Cap Patrol software.
Like seasons past, our success will be judged by your participation. We have something for everyone and hope you support our men’s golf events!

This section provides information on the events including schedule, rules, and participation procedures. Any changes to the published schedules will be posted in advance. The Men’s Golf Program is divided into two tournament sections: Annual Championships and Major Tournaments.
ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
ENTRY FEES Entry fees are $50 per Annual Championship event.
ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS President’s Cup Better Ball of Partners Senior Match Play Championship Senior & Super Senior Handicap Championship
Mixed Two Ball Championship Men’s Match Play Championship WCC Club Championship Senior Stroke Play Championship Men’s Putting Championship
Matches in the Annual Championships must be completed by the date noted in the schedule. Continuing in 2025, players advancing will be asked to confirm the play date with their next opponent to the Golf Shop following the close of each round. In any match, if the two opposing sides cannot agree on a time to play, then the match must be played on the original deadline of Sunday at 1 p.m. Requests for match extensions must be submitted to the Men’s Golf Committee for approval. The maximum extension granted for a match will be one week past the established deadline. For the convenience of all, participants are requested not to enter tournaments unless they are reasonably sure of being able to play on the appointed days. The Men’s Golf Committee may extend playing deadlines only after reviewing extraordinary extenuating circumstances. All qualifying rounds for the Men’s Match Play must be played with an adult male member who will certify the qualifying member’s score. Participants may only attempt to qualify once. All putts must be holed in any stroke play Annual Championship round. GREENVILLE CUP The winners of the Better Ball of Partners, President’s Cup, Club Championship (Championship Flight),Senior Match Play Championship and Men’s Match Play will qualify to play in the Greenville Cup. In the case of duplicate winners, the Men’s Golf Committee will invite replacement player(s). The Greenville Cup is a tri-club match between Wilmington Country Club, Bidermann Golf Club, and Fieldstone Golf Club. The six players, along with a Golf Professional, will compete against six players and the Golf Professional from each of the other clubs. This year’s Men’s Greenville Cup will be played Thursday, October 16, at Fieldstone Golf Club.
DON PEDRO CUP The Don Pedro Cup is a season-long points competition, similar to the PGA Tour FedEx Cup. Players are awarded points based on their finish in sanctioned men’s golf events, including points for participation. At the end of the season, the player with the highest points total will receive recognition as the Men’s Don Pedro Cup Champion. Prizes will be awarded to the top ten finishers. Points will be awarded for the following men’s golf events: President’s Cup, Better Ball of Partners, Senior/Super Senior Handicap Championship, Senior Club Championship Match Play, Men’s Match Play, Mixed Two-Ball Championship, Club Championship, Senior/Super Senior Stroke Play, Twilight League, One-Day Member-Guests, Opening Event, Wilmington Cup, Holiday Tournament, Labor Day Member- Member, Annual Member-Member, Invitational, and Clover Hill Cup. HANDICAP & SCORE POSTING Members must post a score in the handicap computer for all rounds played, including qualifying and match play rounds. The Golf Shop will post scores for all men’s Major Tournaments and Stroke Play Annual Championships. It is the responsibility of the player to post all Annual Championship qualifying and match play rounds. Any member who wishes to have a handicap should contact the Golf Shop. A total of 54 holes (three 18-hole or six 9-hole rounds) must be played to establish an official Handicap Index. Once 20 scores are recorded, the best 8 scores of last 20 will count towards your Handicap Index. A player should submit his or her score as soon as possible on the day of play, after completion of the round, and before midnight. In the event that you fail to post on the same day, the score should still be posted. Rounds played alone should not be posted for handicap purposes. Handicaps update daily. See the GHIN app for your current handicap. This will vary based on the tee played. There is no longer an adjustment for players playing from different tees. For a 9-hole score to be acceptable for handicap purposes, all 9 holes must be played. If a player has not played at least 9 holes, the score is not acceptable for handicap purposes. For an 18-hole score to be acceptable for handicap purposes, a minimum of 10 holes must be played. For handicap posting purposes, a player’s maximum score on any hole is net double bogey. For example: A player with a Course Handicap of 15 receives one handicap stroke on holes with a stroke index of 1 through 15 on the scorecard. On a par 4 with a stroke index of 10, the player’s maximum hole score is 7. Double bogey (6) +1 handicap stroke = 7. For players posting initial scores to establish a handicap index, the maximum hole score is Par + 5. When starting a hole but not finishing it, record the score most likely to be made, not exceeding net double bogey.

MAJOR TOURNAMENTS
Major Tournaments have a separate entry fee and require registration in advance of the competition. Members may call the Golf Shop to register for an event, or use online tournament registration. Any golfer signed up to play in a scheduled major tournament event will be billed $100 fees hould he fail to cancel more than 48hours before the event begins. ELIGIBILITY The golf events are open to all qualified members of amateur status, 18 years of age and over. However, in events where alcoholic beverages are included, eligibility is limited to participants age 21 and over. Upon Request, the Men’s Golf Committee may allow a junior to play in the Championship Flight of the Men’s Club Championship. Senior Social Members may not compete in Club events. HANDICAPS All individual handicaps will be calculated in accordance with the USGA Handicap System. A current handicap for Wilmington Country Club competitions is one that is supported by a minimum of five scores posted at Wilmington Country Club during the previous and current playing seasons. Handicaps are updated daily during the playing season. Any player who does not have an established current handicap will play to a handicap set by the Handicap Committee. In handicap events, new members may use a current, attested handicap from their previous club. If such a handicap is not available, the Golf Professional may compute a temporary handicap until one is established. A minimum of five scores is necessary to establish such a temporary handicap. A player, unless otherwise posted, shall use his handicap posted at the time the competition begins. Some events will use a handicap index from a date posted for that event. If the tournament lasts longer than a week, each player shall use his handicap in effect at the time the round is played. The Handicap Committee at its sole discretion can adjust any individual’s handicap that may be in question. The maximum Course Handicap for all men’s events is 36. Note: If a player belongs to more than one club, he is obligated to register as a multi-member with GHIN so that all scores at every club will enter into his handicap computation. Players must have a handicap registered at Wilmington to compete in Club events. A player should always post all scores both home and away. In the event a player should have different handicaps at different clubs, the player shall use his lowest USGA Handicap Index when competing. SCORING Following a stroke play event, scorecards should be signed and certified by the player and a marker. The player should promptly return the scorecard to the Committee. In stroke play, once a player submits a signed scorecard and leaves the scoring area, the scorecard is considered returned. If a player returns a scorecard without the hole scores being certified either by the player, the marker or both, the player gets the general penalty. In stroke play or handicap stroke play competition, playoff procedures will be described in the conditions of competition for the event. If a playoff is not feasible, matching of scorecards will be used to break the tie. The USGA accepted method will be used. The winner will be determined on the basis of the best score for the last nine holes. If the tying players have the same score for the last nine holes, the winner will be determined on the basis of the last six holes, last three holes, and finally the 18th Hole. If this procedure does not produce a winner, it will be referred to the Director of Golf or Men’s Golf Committee. In match play, players should agree on the result of the match before leaving the scoring area. In the case of a tie or match that ends in an all-square result, the match should be extended one hole at a time until there is a winner. The play-off should begin immediately on the hole where the match started. Strokes will be allocated as in the previous round.
