KISARUNI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Empowering Transformative Education in the Maasai Mara
The Power of Education
The Kisaruni Scholarship Program is supporting a young person’s education throughout their secondary school career. Young girls and boys from across the Maasai Mara in Kenya who receive these scholarships are passionate about learning, determined to pursue higher education and committed to leading change in their communities. WE sees education as a catalyst that breaks the cycle of poverty and transforms communities. Without secondary school, young girls in the Maasai Mara are expected to marry early and support with household chores, leaving few opportunities to become professionals who can lead their communities. Young men also face challenges accessing secondary education in rural Kenya, as they are pressured to leave school to work and support their families. Further, while primary education in Kenya is free, many families cannot afford to pay school fees for secondary education. In order to educate and empower younggirls andboyswhomight not otherwise have the opportunity to attend secondary school, WE opened Kisaruni Secondary School in 2011. It has since expanded to include three campuses in the Kisaruni Group of Schools: Milimani, Oleleshwa and Ngulot. All three campuses focus on providing quality secondary education, leadership development and a culture of peace and community service. With your support, we are able to provide high-quality secondary school education to both girls and boys in Kenya, empowering these young people with the skills and knowledge to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
