IGENITY PROFILE IGENITY provides the beef industry with the most comprehensive genetic profile of multiple traits of economic importance. The insights gained from an IGENITY profile help producers make more confident selection, management and marketing decisions. The IGENITY profile includes multiple-marker analyses for traits such as: Average Daily Gain, Tenderness, Choice, Stayability, Maternal Calving Ease and Feed Efficiency. PROFILE SCORE ADVANTAGES: To assist cattle producers in understanding the value of DNA technology, IGENITY has developed a scoring system for each trait using a scale of 1 to 10. Higher values are not necessarily better, they simply indicate that the animal has the potential for more of that trait. The following descriptions and table (Table 1) are useful in defining each trait and reflect the relative difference expected in animals compared to contemporaries with an IGENITY profile score of 1.
SCORE INTERPRETATION
AVERAGE DAILY GAIN (ADG) Based on pounds of gain per day. The Igenity score for Average Daily Gain (ADG) identifies genetic potential for post-weaning growth. CALVING EASE(CE) Greater probability a calf will be born unassisted out of a first-calf heifer, including birth weight and shape of the calf. A higher value is greater calving ease. STAYABILITY (STAY) The chance a heifer will remain in the herd as a productive cow until at least six years of age. A higher value is desired.
CHOICE The IGENITY profile scores for Quality Grade and Marbling reflect extremely powerful multiple marker analyses which are indicative of an animal’s potential for intramuscular fat deposition and Choice or better Quality Grade carcasses. Choice shows an Indication of an animal’s ability to grade and marble. FEED EFFICIENCY (FEED) This is an indicator of feed efficiency. It is the difference in animals’ daily consumption of feed to achieve the same level of daily gain. Lower RFI indicates greater feed efficiency. TENDERNESS (TEND) Genetic potential for beef tenderness (Warner- Bratzler Shear Force). A higher 1-10 score is more tender.
INDEX SCORES
IGENITY PRODUCTION INDEX (IPI) The Igenity Production Index is well balanced for maternal, production and carcass progeny traits. It is designed for producers who raise their own heifers and want broad improvement across multiple traits. Weightings: Stay 30%; CEM 10%; ADG 15%; RFI -15%; Marb 20%; Tend 10%.
IGENITY MATERNAL INDEX (IMI) This index is highly maternal and designed to select replacement heifers for fertility, longevity, moderate cow size and higher weaned calf weight. It is a tool developed for producers who sell calves at weaning or after a short backgrounding period. Trait Weightings: CED 5%, CEM 5%, HPG 5%, Stay 25%, WW 30%, -20% YW, -10% RFI.
