St. Anthony's Health Center Booklet

Our promise of a better tomorrow just got brighter.

Dear Friends,

This is truly an exciting time for HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. With the opening of our beautiful new Health Center, we are taking another step towards convenient, patient-focused care. This centralized location will provide residents with easy access to our Convenient Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Lab services, Women’s Wellness Center, and Nutrition Services. In addition, we are also blessed to have our ministry partners, HSHS Medical Group, join us with new clinic space for their physicians, with room for expanding services to the community. Together, we are truly stronger! Thanks to the ongoing support of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, our Board of Directors, and the leadership of Hospital Sisters Health System, HSHS Medical Group, and the HSHS Southern Illinois Division, this new Health Center is now a reality. To provide ease of access to our outpatient services, we have connected this new Health Center facility to the previous Effingham Medical Center for the convenience of the physicians located there, as well as their patients. Both buildings will now be called St. Anthony’s Health Center, Buildings A and B.

Health to You and Yours,

Theresa J. Rutherford President and CEO HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital

3D Mammograms

If a suspicious area is detected throughmammography or ultrasound testing, a biopsy might need to be conducted, where a sample of cells or tissue is collected from the suspicious area for examination under a microscope by a pathologist. We offer the latest technology in the biopsy systems, including stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies, which allow us to take images of the specimens during the time of the procedure which makes for a more accurate and shorter procedure. At our innovative and redesigned Women’s Wellness Center, we offer 3D mammography, which allows the radiologist to examine the breast tissue layer by layer. Instead of viewing all the complexities of breast tissue in a flat image (as with traditional 2D mammography), fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. Bone Density Exams

Bone densitometry is an enhanced form of x-ray technology that is used to measure bone loss. This physician-ordered exam, performed in our Dexa Scan room, is used to assess if you are at risk for osteopenia or osteoporosis. A bone densitometry test can also assess your risk for developing fractures.

The all-new Health Center offers the latest in health care technology to patients and physicians in our region. With this technology, those who come to St. Anthony’s Health Center can be assured that they are receiving the most advanced care close to home, at a convenient, all-in-one location.

The Carestream DRX-Excel Plus is a brand-new fluoroscopy x-ray unit. With fluoroscopy, a continuous x-ray beam is passed through the body part being examined. The beam is transmitted to a TV-like monitor so that the body part and its motion can be seen in detail. This unit has a table that has the ability to tilt a full 90 degrees for performance of all exam types and lowers to 19 inches, making it easily accessible for wheelchair patients.
