Take the traditional London garden square, interpret it for a modern skyscraper, and you have London’s Manhattan Loft Gardens. Inspired by the creativity and tech spirit of Stratford City, this double-cantilevered skyscraper sits adjacent to Westfield Stratford City and across from Stratford International Station. Sky-high numbers The Manhattan Loft Gardens’ numbers are just as impressive as the unique design: 42 storeys; a triple-height entrance lobby; a 146-room design hotel on the first seven storeys, one gym, two restaurants; 248 private apartments, lofts and penthouses; and three sky gardens. The aims of the project are very simple and human: to promote social interaction and reflect the area’s diversity – as well as ensure people are always as close as possible to an outdoor space. Flexible strategy A key part of the project was about designing whole-building solutions and considering both the interface and separation between the hotel and residential systems – in design and operation. We supported a flexible design and procurement strategy throughout the project. This allowed us to inform final decisions as late as possible, but also maintain site progress. We brought our extensive experience in hotel, residential, and high- rise projects to this fantastic development. Working with the other designers to deliver coordinated solutions, we provided clear strategies and designs that allowed maximum residential sales values for the client – and ensured a feel-good building to be proud of.
