Introduction to FrameUpNow Plans – Frame in Wood or Light Guage Steel We design our plan sets by following the guidelines and the requirements of the International Building Code. There are two guidelines that are applied to the design of a residence: IRC – International Residential Code – the IRC is a prescriptive code Most building code provisions are “prescriptive,” meaning that they lay out a recipe for the work, with specifications for both the material and installation. The framer then follows the prescription as to material, spacing, and connection of the walls to the trusses. The building inspector then examines the work in the field to determine if the prescription has been followed. The IRC is assumption based; “one must precisely follow the prescription”. IBC – International Builder Code The IBC code is performance-based. Instead of specifying a method of construction. The IBC performance code provision allows FrameUpNow to create Wall Frames, Trusses, Floor Joists and Beams utilizing the latest technology and materials, and then have it approved by the building code, after meeting specified safety and performance standards.

The Wall Frames, Trusses, Floor Joists and Beams provided by FrameUpNow have been performance engineered and are “Build Ready” at the home site. Proof of engineered performance is provided for submission to the jurisdiction plan reviewers. The IBC is performance based and performance must be evidenced via precision engineering of the Wall Frames, Trusses, Floor Joists and Beams.
