January 2024 Oracle

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. We welcome 2024 — an even year. That means it ’ ll be an even better year than that odd one we just left behind. And it will be if everyone realizes and accepts that we ’ re here in ORPS to enjoy ourselves. We have a brilliant new Golf Coordinator who is keeping us in the 21st century. Even if you don ’ t golf, you should meet Tanner. Our tournaments and scrambles are under control and running smoothly. We could use a few more gamblers for our 50/50. That keeps your snacks flowing and food for the Saturday tournaments. Entry fees have not been increased for the past few years. In fact, they went down a dollar so everyone can participate in the hole in one pot. And speaking about HIOs. Has our course gotten that easy or are you golfers that good. We ’ re ordering bag tags like they ’ re going out of style. There were 3 made on opening day alone! Keep filling out those HIO forms. We want to acknowledge your accomplishment in the Oracle. Tanner is handling the ordering of bag tags, but if you have a question, you know where to find me. Selling 50/50 tickets! There are tournaments scheduled each month. You can check it out on the golf calendar that Tanner publishes for us. And they ’ re also listed on ForeTees. If you ’ re new to ForeTees, Tanner is here to help you and you can always bug Phil. He doesn ’ t like being called the “ techie ”, but he knows his stuff, esp. live scoring. Be sure to bring your cellphone so you can do live scoring. It makes the results more accurate and faster. You can also use our handicap system (GMN), not only to record scores during tournament play, but also your own round of golf. Hopefully your connection doesn ’ t drop. Oops. The Resort is working on upgrading the WIFI system, but live scoring works. We were unfortunate to lose two committee members. So, along with Mike Delaney, Phil Sanstrum, Diane Backer, Lydia Delaney, Larry Black and yours truly, we welcome Nick Paulsen and Karen Huckvale. In the meantime, enjoy your golfing. Respectfully submitted, Deanna Joe, Secretary, Golf Committee Memorial Corner: Walli died on July 29, 2023 at the age of 79, after a very short battle with pancreatic cancer. As a 16 - year owner at ORPS, she was very active in the golf community participating in Tuesday & Thursday scrambles and her much loved "Chix

So, we are off and running for our 2023 - 2024 Season at Outdoor Resort and it is already January - where does the time go? Well I hope some of that time goes to one of our two Golf Courses! The Big 18 and Small 9 are here for you to enjoy free of charge, just book a tee time with us at the Golf Shack and we will get you out there! The Big 18 is also the centerpiece of the Resort and is looking beautiful through the first two months of the year. We continue to fertilize and water to see new growth, as the golf course gets pretty beat up by the amount of play it sees on a daily basis. Our Players help keep our course beautiful a number of different ways. We have a popular 'Adopt a Green' program where members are assigned a green to watch over for the season by fixing ball marks. We have our Player Assistant program that will start to help with pace of play and the needs of the players during a round. We also have our 'Dog Chasers', owners with furry friends to keep the Geese at bay and away from eating up our course. Lastly, besides for filling in divots and fixing ball marks, members are becoming better at staying at least 30 feet away from the greens with a golf cart if a handicap cart is permitted. It may seem like a short season for our Members with all the different activities available, but it is a LONG season for our Golf Course as we will continue to see more and more play in the new year. So be kind to it and help out if you can - it may thank you by allowing a few more birdies or with a little luck, a Hole in One! All the best, Tanner Bown | “ The Golf Guy ”

with Stix" Friday golf group. She loved her life at ORPS was known for her bright smile and wave that greeted everyone. Her time away from ORPS was mostly spent cruising the waters of Washington, British Columbia and SE Alaska on our boat and she loved the contrast between the desert sun and the coastal sea that the two lifestyles provided. We had celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary in January 2023 with a 15 - day family cruise down the Danube River last fall. A perfect celebration of our life together.
