Finding the Perfect Island: 23°57’5.56”N 76°18’19.68”O

After 10 years of exploration in the Bahamas and the decision to build an eco-resort, the challenge was to find the perfect island. They had specific criteria in mind: • A place underdeveloped to create the ambiance of a private island but without the as- sociated high costs. • Two adjacent plots, one facing the the Atlantic and the other the Caribbean due to the North-South orientation of the Exumas. • An elevated location with a 360-degree unobstructed view. • A place where boat anchorage was rare to ensure breathtaking views and water quality. • Far enough from busy areas to guarantee tranquility yet close enough for convenience. In 2018, they took the significant step of making purchase offers, accompanied by their daughter. This continues the story by highlighting the specific criteria they had in mind when searing for the ideal location for their eco-resort in the Exuma.

Reality Check: The Challenges Behind the Dream

After a period of dreams and enjoyment, reality struck when they decided to camp on the prop- erty with their son in makeshift accommodations. This dreamy and unique vacation spot turned out to be an enormous challenge when it came to building the desired accommodations. Imagine being on an island with no roads, no water, no electricity, no workforce, and the need to transport everything by sea or air. And let’s not forget, there’s no hardware store nearby in case you forget something. Furthermore, they were in a foreign country, unfamiliar with the local community, and navigating unfamiliar regulations. All of this unfolded in an environment that is relentlessly sunny, with salt-laden air that corrodes everything in a matter of weeks, unlike anything encountered on the mainland.
