The chyrch will be in rest—the church’s tremblers, in tribulation. During man’s day, the church is called to tribulationbutr in the “day of the Lord,” all will be re versed. . . .“The day o f the Lord” will be the grand time for reckoning with the workers, for the divine appraisal o f serv ice, for the settling o f all questions of personal responsibility, for the distribution of rewards.— Things New and Old. JULY 3 Restitution “I f a soul-sin” (Lev. 6:2). I had a little boy in my class who stole my pencil. Suppose that boy knelt and asked forgiveness for having stolen that pencil, and yet kept' the pencil in his pocket. Do you think God would forgive him? What must he do? He must restore the thing that he has stolen. If you have told a person an untruth, wl\at must you do? You must go and tell that person the truth if you want forgiveness. . . . Until we get some righteous idea of God’s dealing with our souls, we are not likely to be very righteous in our conduct toward others. — B ishop H ill . JULY 4 When “ If” Was Omitted “Lord, if thou wilt . . . I will” (Matt. 8:2, 3), Have you ever seriously set yourself to seek the Lord, and when you have found Him* said to Him,WSave me from sin, from, this sin,” and had Him answer you: “No, I do not wish to do so. yet” ? A thorn in the flesh God may deal thus with. A temptation in the flesh He may even continue to permit. But a sin in .the flesh—never! Let me see the man -es pecially the man who loves the LordiSlook Jesus in the face, that face all lined with iove, and say. to H im : “ Lord Jesus, Thou art able to cleanse me,'1I know, but I do n o t, believe Thou art. willing.” ?J.!.,; ... Jesus is love, and I had almost rather be lieve that He lacked the power to bless, having the will, than the will, having the power. . . . He gave back the petition granted, but with an alteration in it. The “if”! was;struck out!—J. B. F iggis . The Lord Jesus prayed: “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee V . .. that the world may believe that thou hast sent me” (John 17:21). If we exhibit the love that was in God toward Christ, and in Christ to us, the world will be obliged to confess that our Christianity is genuine and from above. This is what actually happened. The Greeks and Romans, Jews and heathen, hated each other. Among all the nations o f the world there was hardly a thought of love to each other. The very idea of self-sacrifice was a strange one. When the heathen saw that Christians from different nations, under the powerful workings o f the Holy Spirit, became one, JULY S Evidence . “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to an other’’ (John 13:35). ;

JULY 1 All I Ask “I f thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence" ,(Ex. 33 :15), / . I do not ask that I may walk At ease on smoothly trodden paths, And always climb the mountain-height, And safely through its dangers pass; I only ask—on rock or sand— The sure upholding of Thy hand. I do not ask that I may dwell From noise and battle far removed, Nor ever feel temptations nigh .Nor ever know my armor proved; But, Lord, I ask through life’s dark hour Uphold me with Thy mighty power. I dare not pray for any gift On this my pilgrimage to heaven, But only ask one boon of Thee: Lord, give Thyself, and all is given. I’m neither strong, nor brave, nor wise; Be Thou my strength—it shall suffice. — M artha F. R oth . JULY 2 Future Rest “And, to you who are troubled rest with us" (2 Thes’s., 1 :7), ;v? “When Christ, who is our life, 'shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Furthermore, when the day of the Lord does actually arrive, it will not be to trouble His people, but, on the con trary, to trouble their persecutors. . . .
