WEST AFRICA
West Africa embraces Weir’s digital advances for productivity, sustainability Minerals across West Africa are increasingly leveraging Weir’s comprehensive digital ecosystem which now extends well beyond the traditional processing plant.
Weir embeds intelligence directly into its equipment, delivering digital insights where they matter most.
A ccording to Andrew Ayirebi, Regional Manager West Africa at Weir, digitalisation is fundamentally changing the way mining companies manage their operations while reinforcing Weir’s role as a long-term technology and performance partner. “Mining companies no longer want to rely on manual interventions or wait for equipment to fail before taking action,” says Ayirebi. “Today’s mines are looking for advanced warning systems, condition monitoring and intelligent solutions that help them make better operational decisions in real time.” This demand is driving the uptake of Weir’s expanding portfolio of digital technologies which incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, predictive analytics and integrated mine planning software to optimise performance across the mining value chain. Ayirebi explains that Weir has built a comprehensive digital ecosystem around minerals extraction and processing portfolio by integrating MOTION METRICS™, NEXT intelligent solutions and Micromine® software within its established digital technologies.
“Together, these platforms combine innovations including AI, electronic sensors, cloud analytics and condition monitoring to provide visibility across every stage of mining,” he explains. “This gives customers valuable insights into functions from mineral resource planning and pit development through to crushing, grinding and milling, classification and tailings management.” The result is real-time monitoring of drilling, loading, hauling, crushing and processing activities, enabling operators to identify inefficiencies long before they impact production. Mines benefit from improved fragmentation analysis, better process control, earlier detection of equipment status and fewer unexpected failures. “Instead of simply collecting operational data, Weir focuses on transforming that information into actionable insights,” he says. “This allows mines to operate more safely, more efficiently and with a lower environmental footprint.” Ayirebi emphasises that a key differentiator in Weir’s strategy is that its digital offering now extends well beyond the processing plant. The integration of Micromine® software means Weir’s involvement begins much earlier in the mining value
