A new Tasmanian recruitment services company specialising in tourism and hospitality is benefiting from the extensive local and international experience of its directors, as well as drawing on its network of industry links in Tasmania, across the nation and around the world. Director Adrian Sampson explains that the Divergence strategy turns the traditional recruitment model on its head, to deliver a customised, cost-effective, end-to-end solution, which is particularly important in the fast-growing tourism and hospitality industry. Mr Sampson realises that staff such as chefs and seasonal workers can be hard to find. He also understands that the traditional recruitment model is often out of reach to smaller businesses, due to heavy recruitment fee structures. ‘The Divergence service doesn’t stop when we have identified and recruited skilled people for roles in this important sector,’ Mr Sampson says. ‘That’s just the beginning, because when we’ve connected the right people with the right businesses in Tasmania, we offer on-ground support throughout the time they’re working here. We know how critical this support can be, both for professional staff and for their employers.’ Mr Sampson says that the Tasmanian tourism and hospitality industry makes a big commitment to its people – and from personal experience, he knows that employers have a serious stake in ensuring that their investment in human resources is a positive and long- lasting one. With more and more visitors coming each year to explore and discover Tasmania’s many natural and cultural attractions, the tourism and hospitality sector needs more and more skilled and talented professionals to work in all areas of the industry. ‘While there are many permanent employment opportunities available across the state, it’s not always easy for employers to find, recruit and hold top-quality professionals,’ Mr Sampson says. ‘That’s where Divergence can assist, because we have the know-how and the Connecting people with business – how Divergence does things differently

contacts to make the right connections.’

All three Divergence directors – Adrian Sampson, Tanya Denison and Jaw Hwang – are recognised leaders in their particular areas of expertise. They have established innovative approaches to business challenges and have all managed multi-million dollar budgets, large work forces and smaller operations. Living and working internationally has given the Divergence team a wealth of diverse experience. The directors all remain active in their specific industry fields and are represented on industry boards, associations and consultancies. Together, they offer the tourism and hospitality industry a wealth of skills and knowledge. Acknowledging this depth of experience and capability that is directly relevant to our industry, the THA has selected Divergence as its preferred migration agent. Examples of the end-to-end service provided by Divergence are seen in the company’s in-house migration services and the comprehensive relocation support program. As Adrian Sampson explains, the range of all-inclusive migration services smooth the way for a candidate’s move to Tasmania, assisting with employment or work experience placements as well as advising on a range of temporary and permanent visa options. ‘Then, after candidates have arrived, Divergence follows through with on-ground support, which can include information and assistance about a variety of local administrative services and even a tailored induction process to the business they’re joining, so candidates are immediately ready to make a valuable contribution in their new professional life in Tasmania,’ Mr Sampson says. It’s all part of the way that Divergence is doing things differently, for the benefit of our booming tourism and hospitality sector and for the talented professionals that our industry needs to continue its growing success.
