A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10
It has been a busy week for Year 10. This week in tutor time students have been learning about Ramadan and the significance of this festival. Thank you to Salwa C, Sana H and Emily A-J for creating these activities, they have been both useful and fun! We have also reminded students that the multi-faith prayer room and one of the classrooms have been reserved as a place where students who are fasting can go to worship or relax during break and/or lunch if they choose. It has been great to see so many Year 10 students engaging positively in their lessons and also activities outside of school. On Wednesday afternoon pupils went to Hampton Boys school for a STEM careers event where they met professionals from a range of fields including a senior data scientist from McLaren, a petrophysicist from BP and an International Development Manager from NPL. Staff were impressed by the intelligent questions the pupils posed when interviewing the speakers. Keep up the good work!
Please can I ask students to bring their chromebook into school fully charged everyday. This is so it can be used during lesson time for tasks and research.
Lastly, a reminder that we have the Scholastic Book Fair in school next week. Please see further details on pages 4,5 & 6.
Have a good weekend!
MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10
BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘One of Us is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus The book is set in a high school, where five teenagers Addy, Cooper, Nate, Bronwyn and Simon all end up in detention together. A few minutes into the detention a car accident happens right outside, while their teacher hurries out to check what has happened, one of the students, Simon, falls dead. The remaining four students are the main suspects because they were present during his death BUT…. who did it? I really loved reading this book, after the first chapter I was hooked and couldn’t seem to put it down. There are cliffhangers everywhere. New evidence keeps popping up and every time I thought I knew who had killed Simon, more clues came out suggesting another person. Every character has a secret to hide, and an interesting backstory. At the end there was such a plot twist that I was left with my jaw hanging open, I could never have guessed how the murder case unravels. I recommend this to people who love murder mystery!! - Camille P, 8PUN
