Nothing b u t th e Spirit of God in th e ir h earts can do it, and th a t Spirit does H is work in answer to the prayer of faith and the prayer of faith operates as we learn to love these perishing souls. The “ Seven Salaam s” are th e seven verses in the Koran in which th e word “ salaam ” (Peace) occurs. They are as follows: “Peace shall be th e word spoken unto the righteous by a merci ful God,” “ Peace be on Noah and on all creatu res,” “ Peace be on A braham ,” “ Peace be on Moses,” “ Peace be on E lias,” “ Peace be on His Apostles,” “ It is peace un til the breaking of the m orn.” These verses are recited by th e religious Moslem during sickness, or in seasons of danger or distress. It is also the custom to w rite these seven verses on paper and then to wash off th e ink and d rink it as a charm against evil. I t is a vain cry for “peace, peace” and be cause they do not know the peace of God which passeth understanding except to those who know Jesus Christ. And so we are ever coming To the place where two ways p art— One leads to th e land of promise, And one to the hardened heart.
According to th e teachings of the Koran good works w ithout faith will not save from th e torm ents of hell. But faith according to the Moslem in te r p retation , is en tirely different to th a t of a Christian. “ F a ith ” w ith us is faith in th e Lord Jesu s Christ. “ F a ith ,” w ith them is belief in the mission of the P rophet Mohammed. All Mohamme dans, according to th eir ideas, are in a sta te of grace, no m a tte r w hat their actions may be. The following is the teaching of Mohammed as recorded in the T raditions: “When a man is brought to Islam and he perform s it well, God covers all his form er sins, and he gets ten rew ards for every good act, up to seven hundred, and even more th an th a t, whereas th e rew ard of mis deeds is as one to one, unless God passes over th a t likewise. There are th ree persons whose actions are not w ritte n ; one a person asleep un til he aw akes; th e second a boy no t arrived a t puberty; th e th ird a madman until he recovers, his reason. Verily God recordeth both the good deeds and the evil deeds. He who has proposed to do evil and did no t tlo it, for him God recordeth one perfectly good deed. And he who intended to do good and pu t his intentions into practice, for him God recordeth from ten to seven hundred good deeds. And he who intended to do evil b u t did it not, God recordeth one good act; b u t he who intended to do evil and doeth it, for him God re cordeth one evil deed. Verily th e con dition of th a t person who does evil and afte r th a t good deeds, is like th e con dition of a man w ith tig h t arm o r on. He does one good deed and th e rings of the arm or become open. He does ano ther good deed and th e arm or falls
