THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S

death of man is th e foundation fact of th e Gospel. If man were no t in th a t condition, he would not need salvation. Anno. Bihle. Spiritual death is the sta te of the unregenerated man as still in his sins, alienated from th e life of God and destitute of th e Spirit, pro longed heyond th e death of th e body. I t is a sta te of etern al separation from God.— Scofield. No one is qualified for heaven un til he first, confesses th a t by n atu re he is qualified for hell.— Sel. v. 6. Made u s sit to g e th er in heav enly places in Christ. No wonder th e devil hates all tru e Christians. He is to see sinners saved by grace and tak e th e very place he lost.— K. B. When Christ was exalted to God’s rig h t hand and made to sit down th e re in the place of honor and authority, He was exalted as our Representative, and we were exalted in Him and w ith Him, and th a t is where we are today as far as our real position is concerned.— Torrey. v. 7. That in the ages to come. Sup pose all were saved to a i r eternity. It could never be made to appear th a t we did really deserve to die. In spite of the cross, we, angels and th e universe would doubt it. Some m u st die to get th a t doubt a t re st and prove th a t thosb who are saved were by n atu re children of w rath even as others.— Pierson. He might show the riches of H is grace. “ Show” is literally, “ to display.” Man in his day prides himself on his display of power, b u t th is boasting age will end in th e predicted crash, and when it closes and m an’s display comes to a sudden end, God will begin His display. —Gaebelein. v. 8. F o r by grace. Salvation by character fills w ith despair th e man who has lost his character. Salvation by Christ resto res ch aracter and fills his soul w ith hope of perfect ch aracter by and by.— Bishop. The F a th e r drew th e plan, th e Son laid th e foundation, th e Holy Ghost raised th e super-struc tu re, and above it all is w ritten

Grace is— God’s love for th e loveless, God’s help for th e helpless, And everything for nothing. Grace is w hat we need a t ju st the tim e we need it. “Tell him th a t his every longing Is itself an answering cry; T h at his prayer, “Come, gracious Sav io u r!” Is my answer, “H ere am I.” Every inmost aspiration Is God’s angel undefiled; And in every, “ O, my F a th e r!” Slumbers deep a “Here, my child.” — Tholuck. Dying Grace. Moody was once asked if he had /grace enough to die. “No,” said he, “ I don’t need it now. When I come to die, God will give me sufficient grace for th e experience.” God did and Moody died saying, “This is my corona tion day. E a rth is receding. Heaven is opening. God is calling me.” A story is told of Benjam in Parsons, in his day an emm inent preacher of the Gospel. He was lying on his death bed, and a friend who w as visiting him asked, “Well, how is it w ith you?” “ I am resting sweetly,” was th e reply, “ on th ree pillows— infinite power, infin ite love, and infinite grace.” This is th e privilege of every soul in life as well as death. Eph. 2:4. B u t God. How beau tifu l are th e first two words of th is verse! How sweet to faith, when all human power is ended, when man s help fails, when all is d ark , COMMENT FROM when hope is MANY SOURCES gone, th a t “ but K. L. B rooks God.” Gaebe- lein. v. 5.
