Prof. Wheeler, of Harvard, together with Prof. Fore!, perhaps the greatest authorities on the life of ants, took 9560 antique specimens, (93 species and 43 genera) the same being pre– served in Baltic amber, and after th e most careful study, declared that these ants have, in the history of time, under– gone no structural modification, and the same ls true of bees, wasps, ter– mites. In the higher forms of life the same Genesis Jaw holds and holds without a break. To talk of harmony between a false hypothesis and the Bible, ls to attempt fellowship between right– eousness and unrighteousness; concord between Christ and Belia!; agreement between the temple of God and idols. Haeckel, with clear discernment, term– ed Darwin's "Origin of Species" as "An– ti-Genesis," and yet to the present moment each and every one of the mil– lions of forms found on earth brought from sea or land. confirms the Mosaic contention and gives the lie to the Dar– win claim. It was this fact of science that led Prof. Everett, of Harvard, to say, "Evo– lution, or this story of transformation and activity is a dream;" that led the late Prof. Agassiz to remark as a pale– ontologist, "I am compelled to say that the theory is a scientific mistake, un– true in its facts, unscientific in its methods and mischievous in its ten– dency;" that compelled ex-President Leavitt of Lehigh University to affirm, "All the facts of the past cycles of the earth are against Darwinism;" that moved Sir Wm. Dawson to write, "The records of the rocks are decidedly against evolutionists;" that compelled Dr. Etheridge of the British Museum to admit, "In this great Museum there is not a particle of evidence of the trans– mutation of species. The talk of evolu– tionists is sheer nonsense, not sup– ported by fact;" that brought from the lips of Sir Charles Bell, Professor of
th e University College of London, the statement, "Everything declares species to have their origin in a distinct crea– tion-not in a gradual variation from some original type;" that forced from the lips of Haeckel the lament, "Most modern investigators of science have come to the conclusion that the doc– trine of evolution, and particularly Dar– winism, is an error and cannot be main– tained;" and brought Prof. William Bateson, the world's most famous biolo– gist, to give the grudging testimony, "While forty years ago the Darwinian theory was accepted without question , today scientists have come to a point where they a re unable to offer any ex– planation for the genesis of species. There ls no evidence of any one species acquiring new faculties. • • • Varia– tions of many kinds, often considerable, we daily witness, but no origin of species." Genesis Stands Approved Hence it is that Genesis stands ap– proved by the world's most famous students, its enemies themselves often being the unwilling witnesses. No won– der the Psalmist said of this book, "Thy Word is true from the beginning." On the authority of Christ Himself, In the Parable of the Sower, "The Word of God is the good seed." The study of history confirms this statement of Scrip– ture. Wherever the Word of God has been preached in the world, improved civilization has been the product there– of. Constant tributes are paid to the Jew; he is the marvel of every genera– tion and has been such for four thou– sand years. History fails to account for him, and is equally Impotent to ex- plain him. His intelligence, his vie- tories, his continued supremacy In all the earth, circumstances considered, seem inexplicable! But not so! Only recall that to him the Word of God was given; that when nations were bowing down to idols, he worshipped J ehovah;
