THE KING ' S BUSINESS
was to be given to the world-until He came again-to His disciples. "Ye shall be my witnesses." The only book that J esus wrote He wrote in the lives and minds of His disciples. He trusted them. He said to them, "I will send the Comforter. He shall bring to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you. Now go. I have put Into your hearts and lives and thoughts my eternal Word and that is to be my Book. You are to be my witnesses." Did Jesus blunder? All my faith Is based upon faith In the Divine claims of J esus Christ. I have no Gospel if that is blotted out. "Thou art the king of glory." H I could be seduced to think that Jesus Christ blundered here and there and in another place, I should be done for. All my hope and all my faith and all my love would go forever. Did J esus blunder because He did not write a book a'lld leave it with His chosen ones, whom He trusted and ac– credited and empowered before all the world? Did He make a mistake? What do you say? Everything depends upon your answer to that question. These men whom Jesus trusted and empowered and accredited are the men whom the skeptical critics are discredit– ing today and proclaiming to be unwor– thy of belief. I had rather trust Jesus and believe that the men whom He empowered were infallible in their ut– terances by the enduement which He gave them. And so the whole of this wonderful Book is accredited from be– ginning to end by our Lord Himself. If that is so, we must come out and stand with Him. It was th us that the Baptist Bible Union was formed and I had the honor of being chosen as its first President. I accepted the Presidency for the second year while the work was then in Its formative state. But now I am only the Vice-President and a very dear friend-a stalwart for the truth of the Lord J esus Christ-has accepted the
Presidency, and the work Is going on. We do not expect to save those who have given themselves over to the apos– tasy, for when men get into that awful current of unbelief it seems almost Im– possible to stay them and Induce them to give any attention to arguments for the other side. They turn their backs to the light, and their faces towards vain speculations and paganism, for that Is what it amounts to. I believe in the kingship of Jesus and yet I know that the Word of God, which never makes a mistake, has prophesied a dark apostasy for the latter days and therefore I am not surprised. The Word is being fulfilled by the very men who are turning away from the truth and turning to fables. Our young men go into college with Christian faith and come out with no faith at all. This is true all over the land. The magazines, the newspapers and the whole country are flooded with skepticism. We raise against this tide the banner of the Cross. We do not expect to stay the !loads, but we are expecting to save thousands who have not yet been swept into the whirlpool. We are anxious that the young men shall be fortified before this evil thing gets hold of them, and we are saving them. I have had letters from numbers of young men who had testified that they have been pluck– ed like brands before the fire laid hold of them. There is an awakening In the land. It is something to be counted worthy to fight for Him, but we want to conquer for Him too; and so we are linking together the men and women in the different churches in our little Is– land and letting them know they belong to one another, and there will be greater things, God helping us, by and by. Do not let us make any mistake. We must . fight. That old Book does not prophesy falsely. There are dark days
