to have an opening between his office and mine closed, so that he would not be disturbed by conversations in our of– fice. I smiled to myself as I thought, even if the opening had been closed with sheet iron he miglit have overheard that conversation! As I ur ged upon this old gentleman the fact that J esus Christ fulfilled the many prophecies concerning Israel's Messiah, he said, "Do you mean to tell me that I have been mistaken all these years?" Again he said, "Why can't I pray to God Almighty without believing In J esus Christ?" I answered him, and told him the story of the death of Rabbi ·Yochanan Ben 7.achai, who said to his disciples before he died, "I see two roads open before me, the one leading to Gon Aden (i. e., Paradise,) and the other to Gehennum (Hell,) and I do not know which of these two roads I am on." The old man said: " I don't want to be liK:e him; I would like to know for sure, but it's hard to change when you are old; rt's hard to get away from one's early training." I asked if he believed in prayer, and he said he dfd; then taking a Gospel of John, I wrote on the inside cover , "Oh, God. if Jesns is the Messiah of Israel, make It clear and plain to me, and If He Is. Twill accept Him as my Savior." Turning, I asked him If he could pray that prayer. He replied In the affirma– tive. and after I had given him a tract. urging him to offer the prayer. and then read the Gospel , he lert. He appeared at the next Jewish meeting with a ·smiling face, assured me that he had 'offered the prayer, and as he read the Gospel the conviction came to his heart th•t "thp ()nP w!i.om the nation abhor– reth" was Indeed Israel's Messiah and Savior.

a nearby city, to place a Jewish worker there, and after much prayer God seems to be leading one of our own Hebrew– Christian workers to take this new field. It is our desire, if God wills, to place competent Hebrew Christians and Gen– tile Christian workers in these needy fields where there are large J ewish pop– ulations, and in many cases where there is little, if any, Jewish evangelistic ef– fort. An Aged Jew ConYerted About a year ago an old Jewish gen– tleman of 66 years of age called on the writer in regard to employment. After discussing the work-problem, and as he was about to go, one or two Jewish tracts were given to him with the earn– est request that he carefully read them. "Oh," he says, "I am a Jew and could notat my advanced age think of becom– ing converted to Christianity; Judaism is good enough for me." After saying something further along the same line of thought, he left, and we did not see him again for a year. The next time I saw him I again pressed upon him the claims of Christianity and the proofs that Jesus Christ was the Jewish Mes– siah. The old fellow was an odd character; indeed, a merry twinkle in his faded blue eyes bespoke a kindly nature, and a peculiar habit of turning his head to one side and squinting at you with one eye presented a very comical picture. He was quite deaf, and like most people who are hard of hearing he spoke in a 'rery loud voice. The interview was Jong, and as he talked very loud, and I had to talk loudly to make him hear, I presume we were heard in aJJ the ad– joining offices, and likely in all the south court! The next day the Super– intendent of the Evening School asked
