THE KING ' S BUSINESS
( 4) Did our Lord know that Judas was a traitor, and If so, why did he permit his presence among the other apostles? ( 5) What Is the lesson concerning the possibilities of the human heart In the matter of sin?
"same yesterday, today and forever." The kingly heart Is always a kindly heart. (3) JESUS BOUND, vs. 12-14, "Offi– cers of the J ews took Jesus and bound Him." In the Garden J esus had prayed, "If it be possible, let this cup pass. Now He desires to drink the cup to Its dregs, for It is from His Father's hand. Who can paint the picture? The hands that moulded the worlds, sent them flying Into space and which keep them even now moving in their orbits, bound by the hands of wicked men! But-If the shackles of sin are to be broken, He must be bound. If the bars of death are to be broken, He must sub– mit. (John 8:36) . Some day the men who bound . Him, and the judges who condemned Him, will stand before Him (Acts 1 7 : 31) : "Ilecause He hnth n11polnte d a day, In the ·which he '\Vilt judge the world In ri~hteoul'4ness by that ltlnn whom he hath or,htlned.'' What a night of trial and sull'erlng! What a day is before Him! Yet there He goes, led by the hands of men, the God of the Universe, working out for you and me the scheme of salvation. Are we ever restless over conditions which seem to bind us, hinder us, ham– per us? Well, there Is a long, eternal day before us when the bonds will all be broken, and no bond will ever touch us save the one which binds us with eternal love to Him who that day bore graciously and lovingly the bonds for us. Topics for Study ( 1) What was the object of Judas in continuing in service and fellowship with Jesus? ( 2) Does association in spiritual things on the part of false pro– fessors deaden their sensibil– ity to truth? (3) Was Judas a heart believer In J esus Christ as Saviour and Lord?
What lesson do you get from the attitude of Jesus towards His own In the hour of peril? Will God give grace for every testing and trial that awaits us?

SUGGESTIVE COMMENT Henry C. Thomson, D.D., llible Teacher and Author J esus goes forth from His active min– istry to tread the Valley of the Shadow of Death. V. 2. "Judas knew the place." He also knew the Lord, His teachings and His works of power and mercy. Mere knowledge will not save. Many wish they could have been with J esus, have heard Him speak, and have witnessed His wonderful life. But they might have been found amid the Pharisees, or Sadducees, and have failed to repent and believe. We should be thankful that we l1ave accepted His love and trusted His Word. V. 4. "Jesus knowing all things that were coming upon Him, went forth." With full knowledge, therefore, J esus presented Himself, and told the officers "at He was the one they sought. From the day He set His face steadfastly to go up to J erusalem, ali the scenes of His trials and crucifixion were before Him. He had counted the cost, and was fully resolved to undergo all for our sake. V. 6. "They went backward and fell to the ground." This seems to have been a miracle; but if not-how utterly impotent were they to come forth against Jesus! What would have become of them if He allowed one ray of His glorv to shine on them? How true It was tha.t
