or the dying thief, and comforts him; He thinks of Father, of the Father's home, of eternal joys, and-can we not believe-of all of us, Individually? He surely did, and this will help to make Him more real to us, more our own. John Is there because the love or Christ was constraining him. He Is there as a witness to Christ's suffering and death; to be a comfort and help to the mother; he Is blessed In being there. The last earthly request of our Lord Is made of him, bequeathing to him His own mother, and bequeathing His mother as a love gift to John. How strange It must have seemed to John when, in after years, he penned these words and thought it all over again! He must have stayed his pen and raised his eyes In loving faith for a vision or the One whom Stephen saw at God's right band. We cannot leave the scene without closing our eyes and bowing our heads, and telling the dear Lord what is In our hearts. May He give us grace to be " John-like" In our relation to HlmseH– devoted to every interest which con– cerns Him, full of the joyful anticipa– tion of seeing Him soon.
