Proposition A Passed

p. 02

A s this midterm election season comes to an end, we cannot thank Dallas voters enough. With their support Prop A passed. This is the largest financial investment ever in the City of Dallas. Prop A will add a dedicated “tourist tax” to fund $1.5 billion in improvements and extensive renovations for Fair Park and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas.

DALLAS VOTERS SAY YES TO PROPOSITION A T he master plan includes $300 million in renovations to the Automobile Building, the Centennial Building, the Band Shell, Music Hall, the Coliseum, and the Cotton Bowl. Plans were approved in February 2022 for $2 billion for a revitalized Convention Center District that will connect the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas (KBHCCD) to neighboring districts and create an entertainment destination for visitors and locals alike. It also paves the way for linking parts of southern Dallas to Downtown with a walkable deck over I-30 to connect to the Cedars District.

entertainment, tourism, and economic growth on a global stage, chose JBJ Management to run the “Vote Yes For Prop A” campaign. The City of Dallas has never put this much money into a project and the team at JBJ Management, a public affairs firm with extensive experience in similar campaigns, was hired to create and implement a successful campaign that ensured a win for Prop A by Dallas voters. Utilizing skills from successful projects including Reimagine Redbird Infrastructure Funding, Proposition 8, Proposition 1, Dallas City Council Re- Election Campaigns for District 9, Dallas City Council Run-off Campaign District 7 and 13, and Census 2020, the JBJ Management Team created a strategy that involved advertising, social media, signage, public engagement and extensive outreach, and public relations. To balance JBJ’s expertise, four well-recognized partners, Alpha Business Images, MRR & Associates, ISP Creative and BGT Strategies, became part of the team. As an African American firm, what you guys have done is put $4 billion into the Dallas community,” said Ambassador Ron Kirk, a supporter of Prop A. As a result, the JBJ Management and partners successfully completed the Prop A campaign that was fully approved by 69% of Dallas Voters on November 8, 2022.

Elected officials, community leaders, Transforming Dallas Committee members and residents gathered at the Canvas Hotel in the Cedars to watch the results and were thrilled as early results showed overwhelming support for Prop A. It passed with over 69% of the votes. “What we have to do now is make good on the promise that we’ve made to the residents of the City of Dallas,” Mayor Eric Johnson told the crowd. “And that promise was is that we’ll be good stewards of this revenue stream and we’ll be smart about how we deploy this revenue stream and that is what we are going to do.” Residents will reap the benefits of modernizing these venues but will pay no increase in property or sales taxes. Thanks to City of Dallas voters, this investment will create 50,000+ jobs, bring our beloved Fair Park into the 21st century, double the capacity and expected revenue of the KBHCCD, and ensure that we draw the very best A-list performers, events and conventions to these reimagined and improved venues. counted so they didn’t register and they stayed home. There will be new elections again May 2023, please register now if you have not. Meanwhile, let’s celebrate the Prop A victory. The vote that costs us nothing will change everything.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT BJ JOHNSON

D allas residents showed their support for a once- in-a-generation opportunity to revitalize and expand Fair Park and the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas by voting overwhelmingly for Prop A. Your vote will add a dedicated tourist tax to fund $1.5 billion in improvements for the two landmarks. This is one example of why you should vote. The midterms are especially important in any election. Why? Because November 8th has passed, but there are still races in three states that are still undecided and the outcome could determine who controls the Senate. Some surveys showed in 2020, a large number of people didn’t believe their vote S outhwest Airlines and Paul Quinn College held press conference at the Herb Kelleher Building at the Southwest Airlines Headquarters in Dallas to announce their new partnership. Southwest Airlines is now the official airline of Paul Quinn College, the first urban work college and the third most innovative college in the United States. The partnership between these two quintessential Dallas institutions will see a continuation of internships for Paul Quinn students at Southwest, as well as open up new learning and working opportunities. Southwest presented Paul Quinn College President Dr. Michael Sorrell with 150 round-trip tickets to support travel for students, staff, and faculty as the college expands its national reach. “In addition to supporting the travel needs of our students and staff, our relationship will result in employment opportunities for our students, learning opportunities for the two secondary schools on our campus and the potential for a very unique academic program,” said Dr. Sorrell.
