A TRIBUTE TO JAY BOOK A tribute to an outstanding cattleman JAY BOOK OF NORTHLAND FARMS “2023 Illinois Simmental Pioneer Farms Award”
1957 - March 1, 2025 On March 1st, 2025 we lost a good cattleman and my friend, Jay Book. He passed away doing what he loved: getting ready to tag a new born calf in the calving barn at Northland Farms. Jay was honored in 2023 by the Illinois Simmental Assn. with the Simmental Pioneer Award. Jay Book built the first Homo-Polled Simmental Program in America and built a top herd of Simmental cattle. Jay used A-I and ET work to build a quality herd, selling all over Illinois and the United States. Jayʼs program was built on performance, records, and strong cow families. Jay bred and raised Northland Lady 228W, the first Illinois Beef Expo Grand Champion Simmental Female, purchased by my daughter, Leslie. Lady was undefeated that show year and that is when the Martin Family started our Simmental program at Clinton, Illinois. We will miss you Jay, and your vision to always Build Better Cattle.
