Changes to TasTAFE Drysdale Cookery training
via the Drysdale Industry Advisory Group (IAG). The group is made up of TasTAFE CEO, Grant Dreher, TasTAFE senior staff and representatives from across the tourism and hospitality industry and meet regularly to discuss training, opportunities and challenges in the industry, Ms Holland said. “At our Cookery IAG on 19 March we consulted with representatives from industry on the new Commercial Cookery delivery model which will be implemented in a staged approach. “In relation to Commercial Cookery, a number of changes have already been implemented including the theory component of training now being fully online and accessible to students at all times. Students can also video themselves for assessment evidence and submit this for teacher review. Teachers will work with employers to identify suitable units for on-the-job delivery and ensure all elements of the unit are met.
TasTAFE Drysdale is making changes to its cookery training delivery as a result of industry feedback.
TasTAFE Head of Centre for Tourism, Land and Services, Rachel Holland, said Drysdale would be incorporating on-the-job training and assessment into its Certificate III in Commercial Cookery training in southern Tasmania. “We have listened to industry feedback that it is not always viable for every learner to come to a TasTAFE campus for training and assessment. This is particularly the case for smaller and rural and remote businesses employing apprentices,” Ms Holland said. “As a result, we are now implementing a more accessible blended delivery model which incorporates on the job training and assessment while still providing the option for employers to send their apprentices to TasTAFE for block training.
“We would like to thank all of our industry partners for their valuable feedback and ideas,” Ms Holland said.
