Clubs Tasmania
Over the past two months Clubs Tasmania had the opportunity to attend two Sports NXT conferences in Melbourne alongside several state sports CEOs from Tasmania. Throughout the conference we were treated to a wealth of enlightening perspectives on sustainability, the intersection of technology and sports, brand development and enhancing fan experiences. A real highlight was listening to co- founder and president of the Angel’s City FC (Angel City Football Club) Julie Uhrman - her club was recently crowned the world’s most valuable women’s sports team!
Aside from shooting our video series, numerous workshop sessions have also taken place. We hosted a digital sponsorship session in Hobart, which was also accessible online, attracting participants from locations as diverse as Port Arthur to King Island. During this session, we delved into the intricate world of sponsorship, recognising it as a term that often presents challenges for volunteer clubs. While indispensable for survival, retaining sponsors can prove to be a formidable task. We gleaned valuable insights, understanding that successful sponsorship deals necessitate appeal and demonstrate genuine appreciation towards sponsors for their invaluable support to the club. Earlier in April we organised multiple Asthma Educational Workshops in collaboration with Asthma Australia. Community Clubs gained valuable insights into the significance of playing sports and staying active for overall health and wellbeing. Attendees learned that with proper management, asthma should not hinder players from participating fully or risking an asthma flare-up. They were equipped with essential knowledge on handling asthma emergencies and preparing their clubs to support members with asthma. Additionally, each attendee returned to their club with a complimentary Asthma Emergency Kit, ensuring readiness to tackle any asthma-related situation. In the coming months we have a host of additional workshops and presentations ranging from committee leadership, governance and learning life through sport sessions. We’ve also been busy embarking across all regions of Tasmania, engaging with various community clubs and creating short videos to showcase the positive initiatives within the community club sector. Our discussions with clubs have revolved around essential topics such as Ticket to Play, celebrating Local Legends (Volunteers), effective fundraising strategies within clubs, the role that our Government Community Liaison in Sport play in the community clubs space, and lastly speaking with the independent regulator about child and youth safeguarding.
