It August 2003 two best friends were mountain cl imbing . The y had excellent weather , beautiful views and great compan y. Black Pepper Farming Project . It ’ s a collaborative project which trains poor , largel y ethnic minorit y farmers in Cheng Vi llage of Tan Lien Commune . In 2015, the farmers successfull y started growing their own pepper plants . This allows them to earn income for their fami l ies . To minimi z e their environmental footprint , the y partner with the non - profit Bonnevi lle Environmental Foundation ( BEF ), purchasing Renewable Energ y Certificates , or RECs . The RECs pa y for the del iver y of clean energ y to the power grid , which reduces carbon emissions from fossi l – fuel based electricit y used during their roasting process . RECs purchased from Bonnevi lle are sourced from 100% new , renewable resources and are Green - e ® Energ y Certified .
