Col. 3:5; 1 nJo. 5:21; Rev. 9:20; 13: 14, 15; 14:9-11. Those who believe the Gospel are turned from idols to serve the living and true God. 1 Thess. 1:9. God is shown to be a jealous God. v. 5. He will tolerate no rival. Ex. 34:14; Deut. 6.15; 29:20; 32:16, 21; Josh. 24:19; Nah. 1:2; 1 Cor. 10:22. It is declared that iniquity shall be visited upon the children, v. 5; 34:7; Num. 14:18; Isa. 14:20, 21; Jer. 32: 18; Matt. 27:25. In grace our iniqui- ties are laid upon Christ. Isa. 53:5, 6; 1 Pet. 2.24; 3:18; Rom. 4:21. Grace takes the curse away. Cf. Gal. 3:10 and 3:13. Mercy to be shown to those who love Him and keep His commandments. V. .6; Deut. 7:9; Mi. 7:18. The law requires love; grace sheds it abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit, and thus constrains to obedience. 2 Cor. 5:14, 15.

(a) The uniquity of incomparability of God, His word and His worship is set forth in the second commandment, "I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me."
