the hand lets go of the card, it can be re moved from the vase. There are many forms of pleasure, some of them harmless in themselves. W e will let this third vase represent this latter type of enjoyment. When I place my hand in the vase and firmly clasp this small fishing reel, my hand cannot be removed. I enjoy fishing at the right time, but I am quite sure that I should not go fishing on Sun day, nor let fishing in any way keep me from accepting Jesus Christ as my own Saviour and serving Him faithfully. W e need to say with Paul: “ I suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but refuse, that I may gain Christ, . . . . forgetting the things which are behind; . . . I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:8, 13, 14, R .V .). Remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mk. 8:36).

Lesson: When the Lord Jesus was here on earth, He said: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mk. 8:36). He knewr that earthly gain would last only for a short time, at the most only a lifetime, and that the soul would live for eternity. In the first of these three vases there is a silver coin. See, my hand cannot be re moved as long as jt is grasping the coin down in the vase. Do you know people like this today? Jesus stands with outstretched hands to lift them from sin, but they are holding so tightly to money that they will not open their hands to Him, that He may lift them and fill their hands with real blessings. Christ wranted the rich young ruler to follow Him, but the young man’s hands and heart were so filled with riches that he refused. In the second vase there is a playing card. This card represents pleasure. Many people do not care to let go of pleasure and let Christ save them. Pleasure lasts for a short time, but the soul lives forever. When Acts 2:22 Ye men o f Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved o f God among: you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by bam in the midst o f you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for he is on my right hand, that 1 should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways o f life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that o f the fruit o f his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He, seeing this before, spake o f the resur rection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand o f God exalted, and having received o f the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Golden Text: “ This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses” (Acts 2:32).

I ' N HIS address, Peter was proving to the people that Jesus of Nazareth was in reality their promised Messiah. They should have recognized Him as such by the works He did among them. His life on earth had been “ approved of God” by what wras done (v. 22). But to the people, He was Jesus of Nazareth, a Man well-known among them, but, for the most part, un accepted as the Christ. Instead of acknowledging Him to be Messiah, they had, by the hands of lawless men (cf. R. V .), crucified Him. The “hand of lawless men” or, “men without the law” (R. V. margin), refers to the Romans, but the responsibility and the guilt rested with the Jews who were men within the law, that is, governed by that law. But even so, His death was by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. It was not an BLACKBOARD LESSON
