Object: A capital “ H.” (Make the “H” by using a piece of white paper 8 Y2 x 11 inches. Make the crossbar and uprights 1 inch wide. Make the crossbar 7% inches from the bottom and 2 y% inches from the top. Color the front light blue and the back red. Fold each side toward the center 2% inches from the edge, making a red cross. Unfold before beginning the lesson.)
SEND them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat” (Mark 6:35, 36). Jesus said to the disciples, “GIVE ye them to eat” (v. 37). He said, “ GIVE,” and the disciples said, “ SEND.” We will close the heart with “ SEND” on it, showing how the disciples wanted to close their hearts to the needs of the multitude. The word is now changed to “ REND,” which means to tear apart. It would have been disastrous if Christ had sent the multitude away. We will open the other heart, which says “GIVE.” The word is changed to “ LIVE.” If we, today, open our hearts and “ GIVE” the gospel to the mul titudes, there are those who will “LIVE” for eternity.
Feb. 11, 1951 G ive and L ive or S end and R end Objects: Two paper hearts. (Make the hearts by using two pieces of paper 7 x 11 inches or larger if visi bility requires. Fold paper in the middle, making the size 7 x 5% inches. Fold each free end to within *4 inch of the middle, leaving the paper approximately 7 x 2% inches. With the fold and the two single edges to your right, begin to cut out the heart, cutting from a point on the right-hand fold 1% inches from the top. When cutting down the left side, where the heart extends the farthest, leave the folded left-hand edges uncut for % inch, to act as hinges later. Continue the cutting, making a point at the base of the fold at the lower tip of the heart. Open and you will have a whole heart, between two halves. Fold the two halves toward the center and in the space on one, between the 2 halves, print the word “ LIVE,” and on the other the word, “ SEND.” On one of the halves paste a small piece of paper, sufficient to cover the letter “ L” in “ LIVE.” With this piece fold ed over the heart, print the letter “G” on it, making the word “GIVE.” In the same way on the other heart pro vide a letter “ R” making the word “ REND.” To begin the lesson have the “GIVE” heart closed, with the flaps in front, and the “ SEND” heart open, with the flaps in back.) Lesson: I brought two hearts this morning, with which to teach a very important lesson. One heart says “GIVE” and the other says “ SEND.” These two hearts remind me of the time when Christ had been teaching the multitudes. The disciples came to Jesus and said, “ This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
I Lesson: We will let this light blue “H” remind us of the heavenly Heal er, the Lord Jesus Christ. The healing power of Christ showed Him to be the Son of God with unlimited power. He healed all kinds of sickness and disease. It is well for us to remember that Christ has healed many more by His death on the cross than by His life. Only a small number of people met Christ when He lived on earth, but now all those who have faith in Him can have their hearts healed by Him. I will fold this “ H” to show how Christ now heals the hearts of all those who have faith in Him. We now see a red cross, reminding us that Christ shed His blood on the cross to redeem us from our sins. When we by faith receive Him as our Saviour, our sinful hearts are healed. There is an interesting story in the fifth chapter of Mark, telling about the healing of Jairus’ daughter. The heavenly Healer was recognized by Jairus for we read, “ And. behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live” (Mark 5:22, 23). Before Jesus reached Jairus’ home, a servant came saying that she had already died, but when Jesus arrived, He touched her, as the father had ex pected, and she was brought back to life. Hearts are healed today, and brought from sin and death, because Jesus died on the cross and shed His precious blood. J A N U A R Y , 1 9 5 1
