Overview The WBS Foundation Year Programme aims to increase access to the WBS Undergraduate Programme for students from Widening Participation backgrounds, such as applicants who live in an area with a high level of deprivation, have received free school meals during secondary school, or who spent time in local-authority care. Widening Participation applicants are not always able to gain access to higher education at the same rate as other students - not because they cannot succeed, but because of barriers that make it difficult to prove they can. We acknowledge these barriers and hope that, through the Foundation Year, we can help these students show their true potential. Our Foundation Year students have done, and continue to do, amazing things, and we are so glad they chose to join us. If you think you might be one of these students, someone who is motivated and eager to learn but has not met our standard admissions criteria, then this course could be for you. The Foundation Year gives you the opportunity to spend a year familiarising yourself with university life. We provide a diverse programme of events and activities, such as working with external organisations, guest lectures, careers workshops, and projects, that provide you with an understanding of the key areas of business whilst preparing you with the necessary skills for your undergraduate degree.

Throughout the course you will receive a great deal of support from our dedicated team of academic faculty, personal tutors, former Foundation Year student mentors, and our administrative staff. Once you successfully complete the Foundation Year you will automatically join our direct entry students following the course structure for either Accounting & Finance, Management or International Management. This will include a placement year if you decide to study a ‘with Placement Year’ variant of this degree.

challenge and wrap-around support for students who haven’t met our entry requirements due to personal or institutional

barriers beyond their control. Equal access to higher education is

essential for a fair society – and these students prove daily what a loss it would be if they were not given the chance to show how exceptional they are.”
