In this session participants will learn how research demonstrates how important phonological awareness and concepts of print are to readers’ development and what that means for classroom instruction. Participants will take a close look at how to assess and analyze concepts of print and phonological awareness and what instruction looks like in whole-class and small-group settings. This session allows for deliberate practice, modeling, and collaborative thinking as we dive into the science behind early reading skills. Learning outcomes: • Identify key instructional impacts from the research and science behind how students learn to read • Define alphabet knowledge and explore how to assess, analyze data, and plan data- informed alphabetic knowledge instruction • Define phonological awareness and explore how to assess, analyze data, and plan data-informed phonological awareness instruction
