This three-session series empowers educators to grasp the essential principles of effective reading instruction. This series delves into best practices to bridge theory and real-world application. This course shares research and strategies that support students’ unique learning profiles through the strategic use of code- and meaning- focused instruction—a facet often overlooked in existing Science of Reading courses. Session 1: Unlocking the Science of Reading During this session participants will receive an overview of terminology and introductory principles of the Scholastic Literacy Framework and its alignment with the Science of Reading. Learning outcomes: • Describe the fundamental principles of the Science of Reading • Identify strategies to individualize instruction using Science of Reading principles through content, context, and time Session 2: Enhancing Instructional Practices Participants will analyze and evaluate current instructional practices and identify strengths and areas for improvement in teaching methods that support effective reading development. Learning outcomes: • Analyze and evaluate current instructional practices through a Science of Reading lens • Identify strengths and areas for improvement in teaching methods that support effective reading development Session 3: Navigating Assessment and Implementation In the third session participants will classify assessments that correspond with the Scholastic Literacy Framework and design a personalized action plan for incorporating Science of Reading principles into daily classroom practices.
