had a share in it. She who had helped to bring the ruin was to help overcome it. For God had said, “The seed of the wo man shall bruise the serpent’s head.” The only way to kill a serpent is to bruise its head. She was a woman, and she knew now that the serpent was Satan. So again Eve believed and loved and served God. (To be continued ) —o— Business Accounts with Mother i. Sidney, age ten, conceived the business like idea of making out a bill for what he had done for mother. So the follow ing statement was laid by her plate at breakfast: “Mother owes Sidney: for getting coal, 12 cents; for fetching logs lots of times, 12 cents; for going errands twice, 8 cents; for being a good boy, 4 cents—total, 36 cents.” His mother read the bill but said noth ing. That evening, Sidney found, beside his own plate, his bill and thirty-six cents; also another bill, which read as follows: “Sidney owes mother: for almost the joss of her life that he might live, noth ing; care of him when he was a helpless baby, nothing; happy home for ten years, nothing; nursing through many hard ill nesses and loss of many nights’ sleep, noth ing; for being as good a mother as she knew how to be, nothing—total, nothing.” When the lad looked up after reading this, his eyes were dim and his lips quiv ering. With a quick gesture, he took the thirty-six cents out of his pocket, and rushing to his mother, he thrust the mon ey into her hand. Then, throwing both arms around her neck, he sobbed, “Moth er dear, I am a mean wretch. Please for give me and let me do lots of things for you still .”—Living Links. Are we not like that sometimes with the Lord Jesus, who has done everything for us and given everything to us? And do we know that the things H e , most wants us to do for Him are, first, to love Him with all our hearts, and then to tell others about Him? —o— The Bible Questionnaire 1. j r T n * t0 the garden to Adam and Eve. gpwja He brought with Him two c |63 !k skins for clothing, to take the place of the leaf aprons which , ¡U i-TaP they had made for themselves. Jtr-1- Often they had to make them, for they quickly withered and fell to pieces. The skins that God brought were the skins of animals. Eve knew then what death was. These, the first creatures to die, were slain by God who had made them-—slain so that she and Adam might have the clothing that they would need ever after. They had been clothed with glorious light and knew no need of other covering for their bodies. They were gar ments that never faded or became soiled or worn. Because Eve had listened to and believed Satan rather than God, she had spoiled the robes of light in which they had walked in shining splendor. In stead, they must wear the skins of the dear creatures o f ,the garden. Shrinking from the touch of these strange, new garments, Adam and Eve slowly and with great difficulty put them on. Slowly and sadly, then, they walked toward the gate, looking for the last time upon the peace and beauty of the garden where they had been so happy until the enemy had come. The creatures they had loved, and which had loved and served them, perhaps wondered that there was no word or caress for them. Already things had changed in the world. Each slow step took them nearer the gate that would shut them out of a life wh,ere all had been joy and brightness, and would cause them to face a world they knew not, but feared. And God walked behind them. Flashes of light blinded their eyes. Two mighty angels Stood, one on either side of the gate, and in their hands were flaming swords which they turned every way. The only way through was- out. Adam and Eve could not return. At last they reached the gate. One more step— and the angels with the flaming swords were between the unhappy first father and mother and the fair Garden of Eden. ' As they looked back—and surely they did—how bright was the garden, and how dark the world before them ! Something touched their feet. They looked down and saw a serpent gliding by in the dust. Hissing, it hurried by to hide in the near est thicket, as Eve, clinging closer to Adam, fearfully watched it. “Look, Adam. Look ! The serpent ! He is crawling!' How hide.ous he is! God said he would crawl, and forever ! But oh, He said, too—.” And Eve was glad to remember what else God had said. The thought of the plan would help her to bear it all, for she
