EXPERIENTIAL SPOTLIGHT Action Learning Associates
UNC EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT
The majority of experiences that have a lasting impact on us as humans are those we truly feel a part of. Why should learning be any different?
Many team-building events originated simply as an activity or game with colored shirts and bandanas, paired with guides or instructors who lacked corporate experience. But creating meaningful executive education experiences is more than a new t-shirt and a day away from the office; it requires establishing priorities ahead of time so participants can build an intellectual connection that will drive lasting change. Utilizing project-based learning, immersive learning experiences, and experiential methodologies allows participants to be involved in something different and bigger than themselves. Our partner, Action Learning Associates, knows that executive learning can be impactful, and that starts with having an emotional connection to drive behavioral change. ALA's solutions are custom designed to bring learning objectives to life. These fun-but-purposeful experiences provide engaging, hands-on opportunities for reflection through discovery-oriented solutions that: Make a personal connection in a relevant, actionable context Integrate action, reflection, and learning activities to link concepts together Use the shared fear of failure and desire for recognition to heighten the impactful learning experience ALA's learning solutions hold up a mirror and reflect ingrained behaviors and dynamics, allowing for growth and self-discovery. Two solutions that are commonly utilized are The Leader’s Court and The Marketplace of Ideas.
About Our Partner: Action Learning Associates was founded in 1989 by Richard “Rocky” Kimball and Mary Lou Skinner. Since then, they have partnered with clients across the globe to bring learning to life through their immersive methodologies that transform leaders. They pioneered the Action/Reflection/Learning approach that permeates all of their offerings. ALA helps businesses build a competitive advantage through leadership development that has a lasting impact.
The Leader's Court By taking part in discovery-centered environments such as The Leader’s Court, participants deeply examine critical issues surrounding corporate strategies, values, or change initiatives. This dramatized courtroom hearing brings clarity and consensus to a vital strategic issue or question. Every participant has a voice and role in this mock trial. Through interrogating entrenched practices and unconscious beliefs, leaders are able to uproot obstacles that are preventing alignment and execution of core values and strategies. The Marketplace of Ideas This engaging and highly participatory idea-generating session focuses on a specific business challenge. From the excitement of the "opening bell" to presenting concepts to "venture capitalists," stakeholders are guided through a series of steps that refine and develop ideas. By the end of the process, an actionable plan is in place to address the challenge. The exciting and collective nature of The Marketplace of Ideas leads to enthusiastic ownership of the resulting plan.
