HOW TO WIN WITHOUT BURNING OUT WORK AND WEALTH
How long would you be okay if your income stopped today?
or paying out. This practice is dangerous when considering the ebbs and flows in any business. As a landscaper, I know some seasons are more productive and profitable than others, and there’s always a chance that something unexpected and out of my control will affect my ability to earn a living. Years ago, I listened to actor Jamie Foxx on a podcast, and what he said has been with me ever since. Sharing his perspectives on the temptations that come with earning a lot of money, he noted it’s often too easy for someone very financially successful to buy a $10,000 sweater or indulge in another considerable expense without considering the possibility of their riches going away. For example, an actor could be in demand one year and virtually ignored the next, and what was once hubris becomes humility. In my mind, measuring success by the amount you’ve saved versus what you’ve earned is the greatest moral in Foxx’s words. While conserving cash is one of the best things you can ever do for yourself and those you love, creating a reserve of time to enjoy the blessings in your life is equally important. No success is possible without at least some sacrifice, but any riches you achieve should never come at the expense of everything, and everyone, you’re working for. Put in your time and save as much as you can, but be careful not to focus on too many things that take you away from what you cherish and what God has planned for you.
Depending on your current life circumstances, that’s either the easiest or the scariest question you’ve been asked lately. It’s been on my mind a lot since I learned that World Savings Day is on Oct. 31. After being in business for over 25 years, I’ve learned big lessons about saving money. Although I’m not perfect, I’ve succeeded over the years by following a few savings and financial security rules that I’d like to share with you in case they can bring value to your life or perhaps help you through a challenging time. First, you must look honestly at your situation and know exactly where you stand. Whether you run a business or oversee a household, you need to know what’s coming in, your living/working expenses, and what you can save. I’ve always been a numbers person, so I naturally follow figures to see how well my business is doing. I’m obsessive about my economic standing and what I take in or spend. I recently heard a podcast that noted that many casinos in Las Vegas review their profit position every 30–60 minutes. Although I’m not that committed to tracking my numbers, I can relate to that sense of urgency in ensuring everything keeps progressing. Second, every business owner needs a system that enables them to pay themselves first. Nobody can afford to work for free, so you must get to a point where you’re disciplined enough to pay yourself a regular salary every week or two. That’s just good business at the end of the day. Determining a safe and steady average to pay yourself no matter what will help you build a reserve and avoid having to live job to job, which is a far too stressful situation to ever put yourself in.
Saving money is always smart, but saving your hours for the moments that matter may be the greatest investment you’ll ever make.
Of course, what you do with that salary once you get it matters, too. Some people will spend everything they make, or have no idea what they’re taking in

LESSONS FROM
This past summer, I was privileged to explore two of America’s most breathtaking treasures: Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park . Trips to the mountains always inspire, recharge, and remind me how much nature teaches us about design, balance, and beauty.
groupings to draw the eye, the right frame can turn a simple view into a masterpiece.
2. Layers add depth. One of my favorite sights was the sun shifting across the mountain and changing colors and shadows throughout the day. At Yellowstone, tall valley grasses gave way to shrubs and then evergreens; a natural layering that created depth and interest. Layering plants by height, texture, and color in your yard gives that same effect, making the space feel rich and full of life. 3. Design for life. Wildlife was everywhere, from moose grazing along the Teton River to bison crossing the road. It reminded me that the most vibrant landscapes attract birds, butterflies, and pollinators.
Out west, the air is cooler, the skies are clearer, and the pace is slower. Beyond the fresh air, three lessons stood out, and I brought them into the landscapes I designed here in Central Florida. 1. Nature frames the view. At Grand Teton, the mountains rise straight from the valley floor and are perfectly framed by groves of pine and aspen trees. It’s as if nature arranged the scene for maximum impact. THE WEST: How Nature Shapes My Approach to Landscape Design CHICKS DIG IT Jumpin’ Juliet’s Smile Time Framing matters in landscape design. Hi there! I hope you’re having fun in the Florida fall, which is still pretty warm compared to other places. I also hope you enjoyed your last day of summer. Me? Well, if you read my messages here every three months, you know I have fun everywhere I go, any time of year!
The three of us turned part of the house into Chef’s Best, a place that
served coffee, English muffins, and fruit. Gavin was the chef, Ella was the server, and I was the hostess with the mostest! I seated Mommy and Daddy at the table and poured water
I’m happy to say I had a lot of fun with my family this past summer, which made me smile a lot. In fact, I’m
for them. Since I wanted to give my diners a pleasant experience, I checked in on them throughout their meal and smiled often. Gavin and Ella did a great job, too, and Mommy and Daddy loved their breakfast! Who knows … maybe we’ll start a Chef’s Best in Florida someday!
always smiling. Daddy says it’s “infectious,” and I’ve heard him tell people that seeing it warms his heart. I was all smiles when we went on the road in July.
Well, that’s all from Jumpin’ Juliet until 2026! Until next time, remember to do things that make you smile. Not only will that make you feel good, but it will also make other people feel good! And if you ever start a restaurant, you’ll have a hostess ready to smile for your customers!
As Daddy writes about in this month’s newsletter, we went out west to Wyoming to visit Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. While at the house we rented there, my brother, sister, and I decided to give Mommy and Daddy a special treat by going into the restaurant business!

Reel in More Fish This Autumn
WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW TO HOOK FISH THIS FALL Autumn Angling
Focus on Structure Fish gravitate toward structures like submerged wood and rocky banks during fall. These areas provide shelter and warmth, and targeting them can lead to successful catches. Match the Catch In fall, baitfish grow larger. Adjust your lure size and color to mimic the prevalent forage in your fishing area. This increases the likelihood of enticing bites. Explore Stocked Waters Many lakes and streams are stocked with trout and catfish in the fall. These fish are often eager to bite, providing excellent opportunities for anglers. Utilize Live Bait Live bait can be particularly effective in cooler temperatures. Minnows, nightcrawlers, and shad can more effectively entice sluggish fish than artificial lures. Monitor Water Conditions Fall often brings changes in water levels due to drawdowns. Stay informed about these conditions, as they influence fish locations and behavior.
As cooler temperatures, golden leaves, and holidays roll in, fall is one of the best-kept secrets in fishing. While many pack up their rods after summer, savvy anglers know autumn is when the real magic happens. Fish feed aggressively as they prepare for winter, and the crowds of people enjoying the water have thinned out. A few tweaks can level up your fishing game this season, whether you’re chasing bass, crappie, or trout. Target Shallow Waters As temperatures drop, baitfish like shad move into the backs of creeks and embayments. Predatory
fish such as bass and crappie follow, making these areas hotspots. Focus your efforts on these shallow zones to increase your catch rate. Experiment With Depths Fall turnover can scatter fish throughout various depths. Don’t hesitate to try different depths until you locate active fish. Using a fish finder can help you identify these productive zones. Fish Throughout the Day Unlike summer, when fish are most active during dawn and dusk, fall fish feed more consistently throughout the day. This allows for flexible fishing schedules without the need for early starts.
