TEXARKANA MAGAZINE

Where was your favorite place to eat in Texarkana?

class. Both of their programs are among the best in the nation, and they have the awards to prove it! I still use the technical skills they taught me every day in my work, but what I remember most about their classrooms is the life lessons they instilled—creative problem solving, leadership, lifting up those who may feel unseen, and how to have a ton of fun in the creative process. What do you love about Texarkana? Texarkana is full of the best and warmest people. I grew up feeling like we were all cheering each other on. I love seeing friends and acquaintances from Texarkana succeed now—many of whom have been featured here in Roots for the great things they are doing in the world! What do you miss about Texarkana? I’ll always miss living minutes away from my closest friends in Texarkana. They are still some of the most important people in my life. While we aren’t spending time together in drill team practice or at Hawk football games anymore, we exchange pictures of our kiddos and catch up on life often. No one will ever know me quite the same way they do! What words do you live by? “Love people and make beautiful things.”

The minute I’m back in town, I can’t wait for a visit to TaMolly’s, Zapata’s, or Big Jake’s BBQ. I wish I could say that hundreds of visits to TaMolly’s taught me to not eat my weight in chips and salsa before my meal arrives, but that is a lesson I’ll simply never learn! What was the teen hangout when you lived here? Sonic is home to many of my high school memories, but come summertime, we had to make the trip over to Southern Tropics for a snow cone as often as possible. Were you a Hawk, Leopard, Razorback, or Tiger? Hawk Nation, baby! I dreamed of being a Showstopper my entire childhood and got to live out that dream during all of my high school years. I did not know that a drill team is a pretty unique thing to this part of the country, and I still love to see the look on friends’ faces in Charlotte when I tell them

I wore a cowboy hat, fringe, and sequins to every football game. Who is someone from Texarkana who impacted your life?

Without a doubt, two of the greatest influences in my life came from my high school days. Nicole Brisco was my art teacher and Charla Harris taught me all about graphic design in her yearbook

TXK Roots is Texarkana Magazine ’s forum to highlight and honor Texarkana natives who have accomplished big things in the world. These folks may have relocated, but they took the values, education, work ethic, and creativity instilled in them by growing up in this unique border city and used these qualities to blaze extraordinary trails. We asked them to share their thoughts about growing up here. No matter how far from Texarkana they may find themselves, we will always consider them our neighbors and we are proud to claim them as forever members of our extended Texarkana community. After all, “everyone is famous in their hometown!”
