A n all-new sequel to his devotional classic, MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST b y the late OSWALD

ECUMENICITY AND EVANGELISM by DAVID M. STOWE David M. Stowe states in the preface of Ecumenicity and Evan gelism that “ no topic is debated with more intensity than evange lism, its meaning, substance, aim and imperative” in ecumenical for ums as the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches. He states, “ This book is an effort to reflect that debate and relate it to evangelistic action and thought among Christians who do not participate in concilliar ecu menism.” It appears to me that Mr. Stowe’s “ Ecumenicity and Evangelism” is more intent on advancing the NCC and the WCC than “ debating” the real issues of ecumenicity and evangelism. He does indicate that the foreign missionaries from NCC churches only comprise 32 per cent of the total missionary force. The truth is that two-thirds of the churches in America belong to the NCC. They send out one-third of the missionaries. One-third of the churches are considered evangeli cal; they send out two-thirds of the missionaries. Why? Mr. Stowe an swers that question, “ the high con cern for evangelism!” Yet he still considers the thrust of the NCC and WCC more important. More than once the book infers that all shall attain heaven. Mr. Stowe suggests a reorientation to God rather than a “ New Birth” ex perience. In fact, he takes pains to bring to the reader’s mind the de vastation of an “ off-brand” group in South India who believed in a “ New Birth” experience. If one does not see people lost — severed from God — why go as mission aries? — 88 pages; paper; Wm. B.

STREETER The author has put down on pa per a clear and concise knowledge of the underlying causes of “ hang ups” in marriage as well as the blessedness that is possible when the partners are in tune with one another and yielded to God. Mr. Streeter app roaches the problems in a realistic, frank man ner, giving case studies to illustrate many instances. His attitude is Christian throughout, climaxed with the need of prayer and dependence on God in this most vital of human relationships. — 127 pages; paper; Warner Press; Anderson, Indiana; 1970; $2.50. — Reviewed by Inez Gooden. Man needs strength for living. This book is written to show man that Christ is the adequate source of this strength. The content is basically evangelistic drawing upon the experiences of different people having experienced this truth in their lives. The author believes that salvation as taught in the New Tes tament is emphasizing “ the evan gelization of the total person for the present and for the future." It is his conviction that this is the truth revealed by Jesus, and em phasized in the entire New Testa ment. He appeals to the unsaved to receive Christ as their Saviour, and to begin experiencing strength for living through the life of Christ. To the saved the appeal is to con tinue to apply the strength of Christ THE KING’S BUSINESS STRENGTH FOR LIVING by LEONARD SANDERSON
