U.S. Space Command Moving To Rocket City United State's President Donald Trump recently announced the U.S. Space Command will be moving to Huntsville. The move reverses the Biden administration's previous decision to keep the command center in Colorado. It has been reported that relocating the Space Command Headquarters to Huntsville will move approximately 1,400 jobs to the area over the next five years. “Soon after President Trump directed the Department of Defense in 2018 to begin planning for this new military branch, Space Force, we began making our own preparations in Alabama for the city of Huntsville to compete to be home for Headquarters. As I have said all along, there is no better place to locate Space Command Headquarters than in Huntsville, Alabama. Today, the facts prevailed, and it is official: Space Command Headquarters is coming to Sweet Home Alabama," said Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. “The Redstone Arsenal region was ready to welcome Space Command Headquarters when I made the official pitch to the Defense secretary in June 2019, and it remains ready today to not only welcome Headquarters, but to welcome all of the military personnel and their families," added Governor Ivey. "As our history shows, Alabama always stands ready to support the defense of our great nation, and Huntsville continues proving the Rocket City is truly ‘Space Central," added Governor Ivey.

Between 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 29, and midnight Monday, Sept. 1, ALEA Troopers worked tirelessly to prevent crashes and deadly incidents. While no traffic fatalities were reported on two of the four days, six individuals tragically lost their lives during the other two days of the extended holiday period. ALEA reported six fatalities and over 4,600 traffic citations during Labor Day weekend Troopers with the
Tuscaloosa counties and involved a motorcycle, an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), and an electric bicycle. None of the three riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crashes, and among the three other vehicle occupants, only one individual was properly restrained with a seat belt. Throughout the 2025 holiday period, ALEA Troopers investigated 371 crashes, which resulted in 147 injuries, including the six fatalities. Troopers also made 33 arrests for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Additionally, they issued the following traffic citations. • 473 seat belt violations 2,324 for speeding • 4,696 total citations
for various traffic violations • 1,638 total warnings for various traffic violations During the same period, ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division investigated three boating incidents, which resulted in four injuries. These incidents occurred on Lake Martin, Neely Henry Lake, and in Orange Beach on the Intracoastal Waterway. While there were no boating fatalities or drownings over Labor Day Weekend, ALEA Troopers remained active in enforcement efforts. These efforts included: • 538 Marine Safety Warnings issued • 67 Marine Safety Citations issued • 310 vessel inspections
were conducted • 1 Boating Under the Influence (BUI) arrest The single-vessel crash which occurred on August 31, on Lake Martin left a 12-year-old juvenile injured. Following an investigation, ALEA Troopers determined the operator did not possess the required boating license. As a result, the registered owner of the 2024 Sea-Doo the child was operating, was issued an Alabama Uniform Boating Traffic Citation for Giving Permission to Operate a Vessel Without a License. This incident serves as a critical reminder of Alabama’s boating education and operator certification requirements: • No one under the age of 12 may operate
any motorized vessel, including personal watercrafts (PWCs) such as a Sea-Doo and WaveRunner, on Alabama waterways • Individuals must be at least 12 years old to be eligible for a vessel operator’s license but cannot operate a vessel alone until age 14. • Operators ages 12 or 13, after obtaining a license, may operate only if a licensed adult (21 or older) is onboard and in position to take immediate control. • Operators age 14 and older, with a valid license, may legally operate unsupervised. • The operator’s license must be in possession while operating the vessel.
The Aviation Unit and Coastal Safety were also busy during the Holiday. As in previous summer holidays, ALEA’s Aviation Unit partnered with the cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores for the Rescue Swimmer Detail along Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Over the weekend, the detail conducted nine helicopter patrol flights and responded to three calls for swimmers in distress Although the holiday weekend has passed, ALEA reminds everyone to remain vigilant and make safety a priority year-round— whether traveling Alabama roadways or enjoying time on the water. GSCC Theatre to present ‘A Murder is Announced’
The Gadsden State Community College Theatre Program will present A Murder is Announced at 7 p.m. Oct. 23-25 in the Inzer Hall Black Box Theatre “The Black Box Theatre has grown with the number of student cast members and the talent,” said Joe Fuselli, director of the theatre program. “This was one of the most difficult shows to cast.” This year’s production features several new actors.
Amelia St. John will portray Letitia Blacklock, Daelynn Caldwell will play Mitzi, Mae Ussery will appear as Mrs. Swettenham, and Sana McCarther will take on the role of Bunny. “They all have the chops to hang with the veterans,” Fuselli said. “Amelia is a natural. She has a genuine quality that I know will resonate with the audience.” Based on Agatha Christie’s classic novel,
A Murder is Announced is set in the 1950s, where detective work relied less on forensics and more on interrogation and deduction. The story centers on an announcement published in a local newspaper in the quiet village of Chipping Cleghorn, inviting residents to a murder—one that turns out to be very real. “It makes the noir style of the play delightfully melodramatic,” Fuselli said. “The dynamics
between Craddock and Marple keep the mood light. Marple manages to annoy him initially but soon proves to be his ace in the hole.” Fuselli said the show is lighthearted and accessible to both younger and older audiences, with eccentric characters and humorous moments throughout. “Sana is a little powerhouse,” he said. “She has that quality that makes you want to watch her to
see what she does next. Mae is incredibly expressive as Mrs. Swettenham and can effectively convey a character’s choice. Daelynn seems completely fearless as Mitzi and super high- energy, which is perfect for her role.” Tickets are $8 for the public and $6 for students. They may be purchased online or at the door. The cast includes: Addie Jenkins as 'Julia Simmons'; Amelia St.
John as 'Letitia Blacklock'; Sana McCarthur as 'Dora Bunner'; Nolan Fletcher as 'Patrick Simmons';Daelynn Caldwell as 'Mitzi'; Buffey Bailey as 'Miss Marple'; Diana Alhegazen as 'Phillipa Haymes'; Mae Ussery as "Mrs. Swettenham'; Ian Kilgore as 'Edmund Swettenham'; Dylan Rogerson as 'Rudi Scherz'; Ian Johnson as 'Inspector Craddock'; Josh Kimbril as 'Sergeant Mellors; and Phoenix Rich as 'ASM'.

FDA Launches Crackdown on Deceptive Drug Advertising The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Food and Drug Administration today announced sweeping reforms to rein in misleading direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertisements. Today, the FDA is sending thousands of letters warning pharmaceutical companies to remove misleading ads and issuing approximately 100 cease-and-desist letters to companies with deceptive ads. In addition to enforcing existing law, the FDA is initiating rulemaking to close the “adequate provision” loophole created in 1997, which drug companies have used to conceal critical safety risks in broadcast and digital ads, fueling inappropriate drug use and eroding public trust. “Pharmaceutical ads hooked this country on prescription drugs,” Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said. “We will shut down that pipeline of deception and require drug companies to disclose all critical safety facts in their advertising. Only radical transparency will break the cycle of overmedicalization that drives America’s chronic disease epidemic.” The FDA is concerned patients are not seeing a fair balance of information about drug products. This concern is magnified when serious risks are not clearly presented, or the information is too difficult for seniors to read or hear. “For far too long, the FDA has permitted misleading drug advertisements, distorting the doctor-patient relationship and creating increased demand for medications regardless of clinical appropriateness,” said FDA Commissioner Marty Makary. “Drug companies spend up to 25% of their budget on advertising. Those billions of dollars would be better spent on lowering drug prices for everyday Americans.” Americans also live in a new era of social media. An increasing reliance on digital and social media channels, including undisclosed paid influencer promotion, has blurred the lines among editorial content, user-generated media and pharmaceutical advertising, making it increasingly difficult for patients to distinguish between evidence-based information and promotional material. A 2024 review in the Journal of Pharmaceutical Health Services Research reveals that while 100% of pharmaceutical social media posts highlight drug benefits, only 33% mention potential harms. Moreover, 88% of advertisements for top-selling drugs are posted by individuals and organizations that fail to adhere to the FDA fair balance guidelines. The stakes surrounding prescription drug ads are high. While these ads can raise awareness of disease states and beneficial therapies, they must also disclose important risks and limitations. Current law requires that advertisements present a fair balance between a product’s risks and benefits; avoid exaggerating benefits; not create a misleading overall impression; properly disclose financial relationships; and include information regarding major side effects and contraindications. Despite widespread violations, the FDA has been increasingly lax and reactive in its enforcement approach over the last few decades. The FDA used to send more than a hundred warning letters each year, and misleading ads were rare. But over time, enforcement waned and the number of warning letters sent to pharmaceutical companies dropped to one in 2023 and zero in 2024. The FDA will no longer tolerate such deceptive practices. Going forward, the agency will aggressively deploy its available enforcement tools. The FDA is already implementing AI and other tech- enabled tools to proactively surveil and review drug ads.

Etowah Pregnancy Testing Center To Hold Fundraiser
Enjoy Fall in Downtown Gadsden
By Brandon K. Pierce Alabama Ledger The Etowah Pregnancy Testing Center will be hosting an annual fall fund raiser on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Meadowbrook Church in Gadsden. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m. This year’s guest speaker will be Sara Bible, and The Mark Trammel Quartet will be performing. There will also be a silent auction with amazing items, all for a great cause. According to the Center’s event information, “this is a powerful evening of community, where we will hear a testimony of God’s grace and the importance of supporting life.” The Center also provided information about how donations and support can help. “As a non-profit, we rely on the generosity of individuals, churches, and businesses. Your donations will help support women and teens facing crisis
pregnancies by providing essential items like car seats, clothing, diapers, and more. Additionally, we offer prayer and moral support to families, empowering them through the journey of bringing life into the world.” The center’s goal is to raise $50,000, which will be used to support work for the upcoming year. The center noted that 100% of funds raised will go directly to assisting women, children, and families in need. There is no ticket required for the event, but donations will be accepted throughout the evening. The Center also hopes that folks will be interested in becoming a partner or sponsor of the Center. “Together, we can make a lasting impact on our community, share the love of Christ, and provide hope to those who need it the most. Your generous support is vital in making our mission a reality. We invite you to partner with us through one of the following
