N ETWORK E VALUATION
Forecasting traffic trips can help identify how the future roadway circulation throughout the Eastside would look by adjusting demographic and roadway configurations to account for changes in regional growth. The forecasting model data was provided by the North Texas Council of Governments for the analysis for year 2045.
Travel Demand Model Forecasting
Three travel demand model (TDM) forecasts analyzed the potential effectiveness of the potential roadway network amendments on the future traffic network and circulation. This included a review of the following performance measures for the forecast year 2045. • Vehicle Miles of Travel: the sum of miles traveled within the study area • Vehicle Hours of Travel: the sum of hours traveled within the study area • Vehicles Hours of Traffic Control Delay: total delay from deceleration, stopping, and acceleration due to traffic control operations for construction within the study area • Vehicles Hours of Congestion Delay: the sum of hours of delay measured by a comparison between the actual and non-congestion speeds • Vehicles Hours of Total Delay: the sum of hours of delay from all potential sources (e.g., traffic control and congestion) A control TDM forecast was used that included the approved 2045 MTP amendment network with no adjustments to demographics. The second TDM forecast included the same 2045 amendments plus the new developments and demographics associated with the Eastside concept plan and recommendations. This is a baseline for the roadway amendment comparison. Third, a TDM model forecast included the revised demographics as well as the revised MTP amendments. Results from the TDM forecasts are depicted in Table 15 and categorized by performance measure. The baseline 2045 forecast for the Eastside includes 325.97 million vehicle miles of travel which is 405,764 more than the control forecast. With the revised roadway forecast, the vehicles miles of travel increase to 326.26 million, or 689,424 more miles traveled than the control forecast.
