Node 3: Woodhaven Boulevard & Bridge Street
Node 3 is located near the intersection of Woodhaven Boulevard and Bridge Street, just north of IH-30. IH-30 does not have an interchange with Woodhaven Boulevard requiring motorists to double back to access the highway. Connectivity across the node is poor. Boca Raton Boulevard is the only east-west street, and it terminates at its intersection with Woodhaven Boulevard. Woodhaven Boulevard travels south across IH-30 but terminates
just south of the highway at the intersection of Brentwood Stair Road. Motorists traveling further south must make a left turn onto Brentwood Stair Road and then a quick right onto Weiller Boulevard. Most of the development east of Woodhaven Boulevard are garden style apartments. Many ‘turn their back’ to the public streets and several of them are gated. This contributes to poor walkability. There are several small-scale, neighborhood-focused, auto-centric strip shopping centers. The Potter’s House Church is a significant local anchor. It is located in a former shopping center There are large vacant parcels to the west of Woodhaven Boulevard. Woodhaven Park is to the north. There is also a firehouse located in this area. A creek runs north/south and roughly parallels Woodhaven Boulevard. An infrastructure project would naturalize the creek adjacent to the east of Potter’s House Church site along Woodhaven Boulevard and provide a pedestrian trail along the creek. The catalytic project includes mixed use development with a rebuilt Potter’s House church at its core (see Figure 72 and Figure 73). The Woodhaven Neighborhood Conservation Plan aims to guide investment, preservation, and growth in Woodhaven’s neighborhood over the next 15 years and has a similar project schedule to the Eastside Transportation Plan. Recommendations in the Node 3 concept plan should inform recommendations and outcomes in the Woodhaven Neighborhood Conservation Plan.
