Barriers
The floodplain limits north-to-south and east-to-west mobility for automobiles, but there is an opportunity to expand the active transportation network in floodplain areas to improve access to Gateway Park, Harmon Field Park, and the Tandy Hill Natural Area. Roadway extensions west of Beach Street are limited by the floodplain, railroad, parks, and homes. Two study area bridges, located at IH-30 and Riverside Drive and along US 287 south of East Lancaster Avenue, have 14-foot clearances, which is below TxDOT’s standard of 17-foot clearance. The low bridges limit access for trucks and other delivery vehicles in the area.
Opportunities
There are opportunities to coordinate with the City of Arlington to enhance or create new connections between the two cities. Fort Worth and Arlington’s interjurisdictional connections are illustrated in Figure 13 . In addition to coordinating with Arlington on potential changes to East Lancaster Avenue, East Rosedale Street, and Eastchase Parkway, there may be opportunities to extend John T. White Road to Lamar Boulevard and Ederville Road to Westwood Drive. The roadway extensions would improve connectivity between Arlington and Fort Worth and provide two alternative relief routes for IH-30.
