A CTIVE T RANSPORTATION The Eastside’s active transportation system spans over 300 miles and includes sidewalks, on-street bike lanes, and off-street trails. The bicycle network, illustrated in Figure 14, provides about 105 miles of connections to parks, schools, neighborhoods, and other activity centers throughout the study area. Planned facilities, such as the shared use path along East Lancaster Avenue or the planned on-street trail on Meadowbrook Drive make up the bulk of the network and are geared towards improving overall mobility and access to neighborhoods and activity centers. Most of the existing Eastside bicycle connections are recreational off-street trails located north of IH-30 along the Trinity River, in Gateway Park, or along Randol Mill Road. There are, however, a few existing on-street bicycle lanes and routes south of IH-30 along Oakland Boulevard, Vickery Boulevard, and East Rosedale Street. Additional details on the existing and planned bike facilities are available in the appendices.
