Where Are Crashes Occurring?
Many study area crashes are the result of drivers not paying attention or speeding. Table 2 summarizes study area crashes and crash rates for non-freeway streets. The highest number of crashes, 167, occurred on East Lancaster Avenue between Ayers Avenue and Oakland Boulevard. Nine of these crashes involved pedestrians, including two fatalities. Key causes of crashes include disregarding a stop sign or traffic signal, failure to yield the right-of-way at an intersection, and unsafely changing lanes. The highest crash rate, 50.62 per million vehicle miles traveled (MMVT), occurred on Cooks Lane between the eastbound IH-30 exit ramp and Ederville Road.
