Our skin is our largest sensory organ! Touch is a vital channel of communication for learners at the earliest developmental levels. It is humankind’s earliest form of communication and our most fundamental means of contact with the outside world. Products in this chapter may help reduce unwanted mouthing, and other self- stimulatory behaviour. Chosen for the tactile defensive and seekers among us.
Tactile defensiveness is one type of sensory response that can be directly treated with Multi-Sensory Therapy. Touch receptors, which are located all over our skin, help us interpret what we feel, including pain, temperature, and texture. To improve your sense of touch, use your eyes and focus on what you are touching. Touch permeates life and enables almost every activity we do, from typing to dressing to hugging.
