Back your business BWGs protect clients, but they offer also clear business benefits: win more work – clients expect written, insured guarantees; build trust quickly – show you stand behind your workmanship; reduce future conflict – clear terms mean fewer misunderstandings; and boost your reputation – BWGs signal reliability and professionalism. BWGs are key to winning projects. Offering the right protection helps you build clients’ confidence, differentiate your services, and secure better-quality work. H omeowners want more from their builders these their investment is protected. From extensions to refurbishments, clients are asking for written guarantees before signing a contract. Some won’t even shortlist a contractor without one. days: good workmanship, of course, but also proof that Building work guarantees (BWGs) achieve two important outcomes: homeowners are reassured, knowing that if something goes wrong, they won’t carry the cost; and builders stand out from the crowd by offering protection to clients.
BWGs matter With higher project values, economic uncertainty, and more informed customers, builders are seeing shifts from clients who: want long-term protection; demand clear documentation, not verbal promises; compare builders based on professionalism, not just price; and will pay more for peace of mind. A well-structured BWG can make your quote look stronger – even if you’re not the cheapest. What BWGs do They reassure clients that your workmanship is protected for a set period after completion.
This protects against structural issues that may emerge years later, and it is often required by lenders. For general building works and workmanship-related elements (such as a flat roof), a BWG remains the most appropriate and practical. Know your needs Before choosing insurance cover, understand your busines needs, which often means speaking to experts. At FMB Insurance we give you tools to reassure your customers, protect your business, and secure more work. They protect clients if your business stops trading during the guarantee period.
BWGs reduce disputes, reinforce professionalism, and make clients comfortable to commit to a project. They are ideal for most domestic projects including flat roofs, refurbishments, bathrooms and kitchens; and general improvements and non-structural work. Bigger than BWG For the majority of home improvement jobs, a BWG is more than sufficient. But if the project is structural; for example, a large extension or major conversion, and the homeowner is releasing equity or involving a mortgage lender, they may need latent defects insurance (LDI).
