POSTERIOR SHOULDER STRETCH Sit or stand with good posture. Reach across your chest. Use your other arm to pull a little bit further. Repeat 7 times on both sides.

SCAPULAR RETRACTION Stand tall, shoulders relaxed. Pull shoulder blades back and down. Don’t hunch your shoulders.

Arif Ali, M.D.

Dr. Arif Ali is a board certified orthopedic surgeon. He specializes in the treatment of shoulder, hip, and knee injuries. He has advanced training in arthroscopic techniques for treating patients as varied as competitive high school and college athletes to the weekend warrior. In addition, Dr. Ali performs procedures for complex reconstructions such as shoulder, hip and knee replacement. After completing orthopedic residency at The University of Chicago Hospitals, Dr. Ali completed two subspecialty fellowships. The first was at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Training focused on surgical techniques for treatment of traumatic shoulder, hip and knee injuries. As a tertiary referral center, many patients were transferred from outside institutions for the advanced care that they needed. Dr. Ali also completed his second yearlong fellowship at The Sports Clinic in Laguna Hills, CA. Training involved specialization in

shoulder and knee disorders, with an emphasis on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, such as ACL reconstruction and rotator cuff repair. In addition to treating patients, Dr. Ali is an active part of the medical community. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Orthopaedics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He teaches residents and is active in speaking at local and national meetings. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. Dr. Ali is part of the orthopedic trauma team at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and serves as the Director of Orthopedics at Avanti Wellness and Rehabilitation. He has also been featured as an expert shoulder surgeon on the program American Health Front. Dr. Ali also treats Workman’s Compensation patients, completes Independent Medical Exams.
