about coming into Christ’s kingdom when it had not yet been estab lished?" A. Nothing is stated in the Word of God concerning this fact. Somewhere during the earthly ministry of our Lord the man no doubt heard of Him — directly or indirectly. It was too bad he didn’t give heed until the end of his life. Yet because he be lieved finally, he was saved. Christ had preached of His kingdom and here the spiritual kingdom w a s meant. Q . San Pedro, Calif. — “Did Jesu s baptize or did just His disciples do this (John 4:2) ?” A. If one looked only to the English, it would appear Christ did not bap tize. Looking at the original Greek,
we find disciples is in the nomina tive case. While Jesus did not bap tize, His disciples did. Q . San Francisco, Calif. — “How can I get a grip on my life when the only person I ever cared about is gone? Nothing seems to mean anything since 1 lost my husband." A. This is a heart-touching letter. You have our prayer and sympathies. The Lord has ordained that in this life there shall be death. All of us ourselves are just one heartbeat from death. The only way to get a new grip on life is to turn one’s atten tion on the One who is altogether lovely, the Lord Jesus Christ, who lived, and died, and rose again. Some times bereavement is due to our own selfishness. We who remain behind are the losers. If we could think of the one who is gone as being far better off, we could rejoice. Else all will prove to be discouragement and frustration. Then get active in the things of His church, where Jesus Christ is honored and glorified. Lose yourself in service for others. Bury yourself in the study of His Word. Some day there will be a blessed reunion. Q . Tacoma, Wash. — “My husband never reads the Bible, yet he insists he’s a Christian. Now how can he be a Christian if he is not interested in God’s Word?" A. A person is saved in only one way, and that is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is true that “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” One cannot depend upon his works, no matter how good or worthy they may be. If this man is a Christian, he must be a very weak one. There is cause for concern. He may have an erroneous idea of what being a Christian actually is. It is far more than just living in America. He may even say he is a Christian to keep a nagging wife from badgering him.
