WOOD&MOISTURE
All hardwoods shrink and expand with heat, humidity, lack of humidity and cold. In humid and hot summer months hardwoods will expand, in cold winter months hardwoods will shrink. In both instances hardwood material can grow or contract causing joints and finishes to crack. Expansion and contraction is most noticeable where perpendicular grain wood components are fabricated to parallel grain components. The issue with wood growing and shrinking can be controlled but not eliminated with environments that are temperature and humidity controlled on a continues basis. Porta Door goes through pain staking efforts to ensure the highest quality materials, we cannot, however, be responsible for products that are not in a controlled environment. It is best to make you clients aware of the ramifications of severe changes or lack of controlled environmental conditions. Some of the effects of moisture. Cope & Stick Products Rails will expand beyond the ends of stiles. Joints and Finishes will crack. Solid hardwood panels will expand and crack frame joints. Solid wood panels will swell on the body of each panel leaf and will not at the glue edge causing an panel waving effect. Mitered Products Stiles & Rails will expand causing joints to open on at the outer edges on the product. Stiles & Rails while contracting will cause joints to open on the inner portion of the stile and rail. Doors may bellow in the midsection of the product. Open joints of mitered products is more prevalent due to the nature of the joint. Both Stiles and Rails will expand or contract at the same rate in the perpendicular directions, opposed to a cope and stick joint expanding or contracting in opposite directions.
PORTA DOOR USES THE FINEST MATERIALS,EQUIPMENT AND ADHESIVES TO CREATE AND PRODUCE A LONG LASTING AND DURABLE PRODUCT. COPE AND STICK DOORS ARE AVAILABLE WITH THE ADDED FEATURE OF TENONED DOWELED JOINTS, THIS METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION WILL ENSURE NON JOINT MOVEMENT, IT MAY HOWEVER CREATE OTHER EFFECTS ON MATERIAL SHRINKGE OR EXPANSION. PRODUCT BELLYING, TWISTING OR WARPING MAY RESULT FROM THIS ADDED CONSRTUCTION METHOD.
