CWU-Board-Meeting-Agenda-10-22

University. To allow for more efficient changes in the future, the President’s Office initiated the process of removing unnecessary language in the WACs regarding admission policy. The efforts of the taskforce resulted in a revision to policy and procedure which was approved by our Academic Affairs Committee and the full Senate this Fall.

Sexual Misconduct Taskforce

In response to concern from faculty last year, we formed a Sexual Misconduct taskforce which is charged with investigating the CWU campus climate, policies, and practices related to sexual violence, sexual harassment, and gender discrimination; to research best practices; and provide recommendations to improve our campus climate related to sexual misconduct. The taskforce began work in Spring and will carry out the majority of their charges this academic year.

Vision for the 2018-2019 Academic Year:

Underlying the specific initiatives, we aim to contribute to increased retention at Central, to enhance faculty morale, and to continue to strengthen shared governance. Our Academic Affairs committee has received an extensive list of charges related to policy and procedure changes aimed to enhance student retention. Our Bylaws and Code Committee, Budget and Planning Committee, Curriculum Committee, and Evaluation and Assessment Committee are all working on projects to improve faculty voice in shared governance and to make administrative processes less burdensome for faculty. We hope these efforts will translate into improved faculty morale. We remain hopeful about the opportunities to continue to facilitate direct dialogue between faculty and the Board of Trustees over the next academic year. We appreciate the willingness of the Board to make time for meetings with faculty and for genuinely embracing faculty concerns. We are looking forward to further opportunities for conversation in the coming year.

If there are any questions about any of the activities listed above or any questions related to the Faculty Senate, I am more than happy to address them.

Respectfully Submitted

Amy Claridge Faculty Senate Chair (2018-2019)
