UAF’s Ghosh honored with prestigious award

The award cites Ghosh’s work in Alaska and beyond: “For his outstanding contribution to the field of mineral processing problems in the arctic, his contri- bution to the area of dry processing, fine circuit optimization, and rare earth extraction from Alaskan coals, and his successful teaching records.” He earned his undergraduate de- gree in Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, (previously known as Bengal En- gineering and Science University), India, and a M.S. in Mechanical En- gineering from the AGH University

of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mining Engineering from the Uni- versity of Kentucky. Prior to pursu- ing graduate studies, Ghosh worked for Tega Industries in Kolkata, In- dia, providing processing solutions to the Indian minerals industry. He also worked as a mining engineer consultant with International Min- ing Consultants and was involved in mine planning, pit expansion and exploration projects. His areas of interest include min- eral processing, computational flu - id dynamics, numerical modeling, process optimization, REE from coal,
