and precious metals statewide yet due to over regulation, inaccessibility, radi- cal tree huggers etc. we are only using around 10 percent of our mining poten - tial. I will fight for more mines big and small that want to responsibly develop our resources in Alaska. This is what Alaska has been known for yet now it seems harder and harder to do. I want to help you change this. House District 8 Kevin McCabe, Republican Candidate Kevin and his wife Linn live in the Big Lake community of the MatSu Val- ley. He is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and has lived in Alaska for most of the past 40 years; including time living in Kodiak, Anchorage, and the MatSu. Kevin has flown all over the state as a bush pilot and C130 Pilot. If a mining operation has an airstrip, he has likely been there. Kevin has a Bache- lor of Science Degree and an MBA and currently flies Boeing 747s for a ma - jor international air cargo airline. He and Linn have adult children and many grandkids. “I’m proud to be an American and an Alaskan. Public and community service are very important to me and should be the hallmarks of any good legislator. Beyond my own personal interest in improving our state’s government and policy-making practices, I decided to run for office because some of my clos - est neighbors and friends, who are civic and business leaders in the Mat-Su Bor- ough, think I have the energy, grit, and wherewithal to steer our state budget back into fiscal restraint, and put limits on our growing government. I believe in Life at Conception. I also believe that the Second Amendment is not just there for personal protection but to protect us from those who would remove our other constitutional rights. I believe in a balanced budget and smaller govern- ment. As part of that I believe that we need to provide a better path to respon- sible resource development. It should not take ten years to study and permit a project that would fulfill our constitu - tional mandate to get our resources to market. Responsibly and safely finding ways to monetize our abundant resourc - es benefits all Alaskans as well as our great nation.”
House District 9 George Rauscher, Republican Candidate
I have served in the legislature the last 4 years, and I have had the dis- tinct honor of sitting on the Resources and Energy committees the entirety of that time. I have toured many of our 6 production mines and some of the other less productive. I believe resource development is the future of Alaska. As our investment income is being threatened by outside influences such as elections, stock mar - kets, and other, we must rely on what we have in abundance and what we have to offer the economy of our state; which is promoting our vast natural resources. As historically cyclical climate change affects the ocean and the environment around us, we need to accept the fact that Alaska is moving closer and closer to becoming the global transportation hub. As we develop our resources, we must develop our infrastructure and together this creates the family wage earning jobs we need. Our state constitution dictates we are to develop our natural resources for the benefit of its inhabitants. To do this, we must properly, and quickly, meet the challenge of streamlining our permit- ting process, provide fair and reasonable regulations, and fair and equitable taxes for our partners. If our permitting process is too lengthy, the investors will move on to other countries where they can set up shop for a faster return. If our reg- ulations encumber our stakeholders to where they can no longer return a fair profit on their investment, they will cease to exist in Alaska. If our tax burden is too costly, they won’t come, won’t expand, and won’t survive here. As a legislator I will use my office to assure instilling all these, are job one. House District 13 James Canitz, Democrat Candidate This upcoming election isn’t about me. It’s about you! Why do I say that? Because if elected, my job will be to represent you, your interests, promote your goals, and facil- itate your ideas. This means, I will need your input. Lots of it! It’s a two-way street. I don’t have the solutions. You do! You tell me what the answers are and
